Stupid question, what is this called?

Please help. I'm a complete fashion idiot. Live in a farm, can tell you all about wellies and thermals but not nice clothes.

Occasion wear.

I've seen a style where people wear a long skirt, flared type, which I have. Then on the top they wear a sort of heavy material top. Shape of maybe a t shirt, but shorter. So it doesn't cling into you, it sort of sits out. Sleeves, t shirt type shape but very smart.

I've looked at hundreds of tops, tried box style, etc but think I'm getting it wrong.

Does anyone know what I meanBlush

Could you maybe link to an image of someone wearing the kind of outfit you mean?

bookh · 24/06/2021 13:01

I can't even find that I'm so stupid!! I saw people wearing it at races a couple of years ago and thought it looked lovely.

I'm going to have to try and draw a picture.

I really think it's just an oversized short t shirt heavy material top. But that doesn't work!

Aaaaaahhhhhhh amazing. Sorry I got lost trying to find a picture and thought it might be overlay.

It's exactly that outfit style in the first picture by @HiHoSylvie

So is that a shell top?

Thank you all so so much. ThanksThanks

Agree with post above, think it might be called a dress with reversed jacket?

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 24/06/2021 13:14

Search boxy or cropped/crop

Gullible2021 · 24/06/2021 13:14

No that's not a shell top, that's more 1960's
style, Jacqui O Top.

bookh · 24/06/2021 13:14

Hmmm see I think shell tops look more fitted, it's the width I like I think.

OP posts:
bookh · 24/06/2021 13:15

Tried boxy, tried crop, will try jacqui o. Gosh no wonder I couldn't find it!

X-posted, meant pic by @HiHoSylvie

Gullible2021 · 24/06/2021 13:17

The Jackie O Style is a "Roll Neck" but that's going to throw up polo necks too on a search.

bookh · 24/06/2021 13:18

Hmm. I see the designer of the dress in the one @HiHoSylvie is mentioned. So might start there. Just really liked it and can't find anything else I do like.

Ah, I have quite a few dresses like that. They are dresses not skirts and tops though. Mine all have a sort of mesh under the top that connects it to the skirt. I'm sorry I don't know the name of them. They were very popular a few years ago and I still think its a very flattering style.

TheFormidableMrsC · 24/06/2021 13:21

OP have a look at the Cos website as they do a lot of tops like this. Also Zara.

JustWonderingIfYou · 24/06/2021 13:25

I think its actually just called faux crop top

ILoveShula · 24/06/2021 13:28

Look for 'co-ord occasionwear' or 'two-piece' and look at higher end brands not high street.

Mail order brands like artigiano(?) might be worth a try.

Independent ladieswear shops are a good bet.

bookh · 24/06/2021 13:30

Thank you all. I've spent hours during night feeds and have got nowhere near as close.

Yes I did wonder if it was actually a dress. At least then I know what to look for.

Great ideas to get me started, thank you.
