Has anyone seen a dress like this but better quality?

I bought this dress online and I LOVE the style, especially the neckline and ruffle straps and I really suit it but the quality is absolutely dreadful. It arrived very crushed (its a viscose/cotton/linen mix) and it's already very bobbled in places with the fabric pilling. I was so tempted to keep it as it does look lovely on but I think it will be a nightmare when washed and I'd always be worried about how "creased" I'd look.

Has anyone seen a similar style dress? This is a sagey green polkadot and while I like the colour, I'm open to others. It's mainly the neckline and straps I love and it's also a good length on me.

I haven't seen an exact match but it reminds me of Reformation in style. They might have something you like that's not a million miles away.

Thanks, it's really just for nipping to the shops or park on a sunny day though so I wouldn't be willing to pay £200-400 or anything close for something just to go to Tesco or Costa in! I should have said...budget is more like £50.

Not helpful for the budget but it is a knock off of a reformation dress I think

You could try H&M. I find their quality hit and miss, but tbh for £50ish, that's likely to be the case most places and I've had some absolute gems from H&M recently. Also maybe Ghost at M&S?

Suing?

Gullible2021 · 23/06/2021 13:32

@Kittyswhiskers I'm not suing! Just returning the dress and looking for another.

@Kittyswhiskers

What do you hope to achieve by suing?
Have you posted on the wrong thread?
Gullible2021 · 23/06/2021 13:34

Thanks everyone.

That Reformation dress is far too short for me!

I'll try H&M.

Do you know anyone who sews?

Looks easy enough just to make one like it.

Miseryisabutterfly · 23/06/2021 13:40

Try & Other Stories!

Not here in the UK sadly but it's making me want to learn!

This one is a similar length and neckline without the frills or dots

www.asos.com/prd/21640185?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

This is a similar colour, not the same straps or neckline but similar in the 'throw on and go summer dress' vibe

Asos is always a go to for me, so many brands and styles, free returns and today they have 20% off if you pop the surname of one of the England squad in the codes box at checkout, hope this helps!

Gullible2021 · 23/06/2021 14:27

Thanks everyone, haven't found what I'm looking for but would agree &OtherStories is closest to the style I'm looking for but out of budget at the moment due to one thing and another, especially as I'm rapidly losing weight due to medical treatment and it will likely be a while before I settle in one size
so I don't want to spend too much. There are some nice things in the Monki sale though.

I'm considering just keeping this dress and working round the issues with creasing and pilling somehow...

Thanks but I'm looking for something more of a midi length and not as voluminous.

OP posts:
theemmadilemma · 23/06/2021 14:55

Keep the dress, look for a local seamstress and they could use the one you have as a base pattern making it easier.

Still might work out reasonably pricey once you factor in material (non bulk) and cost for seamstress. But if you really like and suit a style it can be worth it.

This is more like it! Just a little bit dressier than I intended for everyday...could probablu dress it down though.

[quote HiHoSylvie]That's nice op. I also like this one, also from RI.

Yes RI have some nice dresses, thank goodness!

Unfortunately, a voluminous style makes me look pregnant Blush. I have big boobs and a tiny waist so prefer a more fitted style around the waist and a sweetheart type neckline.

I'd agree getting clothes made is probably the best for me, especially as there are so many oversized smocky/buffet/trapeze dresses about that do nothing for my shape!

Gullible2021 · 23/06/2021 15:16
Thanks. I prefer it in the blue, but it's nearly 3 times the price point I'm looking at.

I don't know how you feel about secondhand, but you could try Vinted or somewhere? It looks as if you want a slip dress, so just search for that in your size and you might find something great quality secondhand.

I've been looking at &OtherStories on Depop in case there was something similar. I think it's more the Returns issue that worries me if I don't like it. I'll end up having to resell and it's a load of hassle.
