Are headbands just for children?

I'm 32 and I wore headbands as a child. My hair is still long (just above boob length) and I had a fringe cut in yesterday. I'd always had a side fringe of some description before so was trying to get value for money this time lol!

Anyway, I've come to realise that I only have one acceptable looking, not broken headband in the house and decided to buy a couple as I find they add a bit of interest to any hairstyle.

My husband thinks that headbands should remain specifically for the under 10s, I disagree (although I have been wearing them since I was young). Is this just a man being a clueless man or is he onto something?

PS my new fringe does make me look like I'm ready to start my GCSEs so there is that Grin

Wtf do men know about anything?

Obviously they're for adults too or they wouldn't sell them in our size. Just get the right style for you. What did you buy? What's the rest of your style like?

Potentially good - www.anthropologie.com/en-gb/shop/kachel-mixed-print-twisted-headband

Great if you can carry if off and have £££ www.net-a-porter.com/product/1324606

Probably not good - www.claires.com/solid-wide-headband---black-18704.html?lang=en_GB

Tuckedinbelly · 22/06/2021 08:17

Those links went wrong, sorry. One was a fabric band from anthropologie, one satin from net a porter and a black plastic band from Claire's.

NatMoz · 22/06/2021 08:23

The Anthropologie one is the style I've purchased but maybe a slightly thinner band.

The one on my head is a purple version of the Claire's one and I think it was purchased from Claire's when I was 18 Grin

The middle one is a bit too Boho for me I think along with the velvet bands that are fashionable at the moment.

They've been in and out of fashion. Two blasts from the past spring to mind - the Sloan ranger look from the early 90s and then in the mid 2000's big headbands.. think Lauren from the hills

They seem to be coming back but as you can tell from my observations... I might be too old to even know now lol!

Ha! I remember those wide headbands, I had a few of them myself!

I love headbands Grin
Recently got contact lenses just so I can wear them. My glasses don't work with headbands Sad

NatMoz · 22/06/2021 11:11

Oh I'm a glasses and headband wearer too! I've never had an issue with both though. Headbands with sunglasses too!

I don’t see many adults wearing them tbh

LonstantonSpiceMuseum · 22/06/2021 12:20

@NatMoz teamed with pearls and denim pedal pushers 🙈🙈
I've heard theres a bit of an early 00s revival, maybe we're due it again? 😃

ScribblyBaller · 22/06/2021 12:23

Headbands were everywhere a couple of years ago, embellished velvet alice band types. Seems to have died down a bit now.

Seesawmummadaw · 22/06/2021 12:25

Great for saving your ears when wearing a mask for long periods!

I love headbands and have similar hair. I don’t care if I look like a child Grin

MustBeThursday · 22/06/2021 12:28

I'm 32 and I wear them. Sometimes to keep my hair off my face, sometimes just as decoration. There's lots of them in the women's accessories section of shops so they are definitely for adults too.

I mean I wouldn't go for the 90's style one with my name on any more but there's plenty of pretty grown up ones to choose from!

AdoptedBumpkin · 22/06/2021 12:38

From what I've read, they are coming back.

Galaxyinmypocket · 22/06/2021 12:59

I wear them to hide some hair loss I have at the front. I've worn them intermittently over the years.

idontlikealdi · 22/06/2021 13:07

They were everywhere a couple of years ago. Regardless, who cares, if you like it, wear it!

notthemum · 22/06/2021 13:16

I'm old, but i wear them now and again as i have quiye long thick hair and putting it up or in a pony tail can pull and be uncomfortable.

As a pp said if you like it, wear it.
