my skin is fairly dry and i have recently bought a clinique super moisture foundation and a mary kay one. they are ok, but nothing to shout about. i want one that makes my skin look dewy and perfect! i know it is alot to ask but want opinions on other ones.

I use a Jane Iredale which is all organic and mineral based, it's great, I have never ever had a foundation that had made my skin look nice. I have very dry and dehydrated skin that before would flake when I put foundation on if it was in a bad way. They do a liquid foundation and a pressed powder that you use with a special brush. I prefer the powder but the liquid one is great too.

Wow, just read that back and it sounds like I work for them or something I'm so enthusiastic! I don't by the way.

Maidamess · 21/11/2007 16:26

The best one I ever used was Prescriptives Photo finish, I think it was called. A solid foundation you apply with a sponge. I had more comments on my skin than I've ever had wearing that.

redadmiral · 21/11/2007 16:31

I like my Stila one. Can't remember which type, but it says 20 watts on the base of the bottle. Good coverage and not too heavy.

pirategirl · 21/11/2007 16:35

clapham if you are using the powder verisojn of this on dry skin, doesn't it just attach itslf to the dry areas, and become noticeable. I am guessing 'no', !! so how does it seem more favourable than the liquid?
I use Clarins, their true comfort one, which is very good, but wouldnt mind a change.

Thye did a wonderful one up till 2 yrs back, then discontinued, grrrr.

brimfull · 21/11/2007 16:37

I have just bought this bobbi brown tinted balm

I use the powder on top.No need for moisturiser under it and it is spf25.
I would recommend a visit to their counter though as it's different for everybody.

sparkybabe · 21/11/2007 16:38

I use the Lily Lolo (i found the website on mumsnet actually) - it's mineral powder and doesn't clog but gives great coverage. I use the cover-up and foundation powders.

sophierosie · 21/11/2007 16:39

I use Bobbi Brown oil free foundation and love it - I'd recommend this one which sounds like it should meet your criteria! Definitely use a foundation brush too which will really make a difference to getting a good finish!

sophierosie · 21/11/2007 16:40

x-posted with ggirl!

ClaphamLauren · 21/11/2007 16:42

pirategirl - I use beauty flash balm so my skin isn't flaky when it goes on and then it's fine, lasts all day and is ok to sleep in for those nights when I forget to take it off! I always thought that liquid foundation would be better for dry skin but in my experience it's not.

I do also use Clarins Extra Firming - because I like the texture and it's never to early to start extra firming. In the summer I tend to use a tinted moisturiser on days when the powder is too heavy however most of the time it's perfect!

My family own a few Clarins, Decleor and Guinot salons so I'm quite lucky and they stock Jane Iredale in one so I get to try out lots of different types of make up.

lizandlulu · 21/11/2007 16:48

claphamlauren- i wish i had family like that!
it looks like i am going to have to do a trawl of the make up counters to get trials on them. i have a fairly red complexion as i work outside all day and that doesnt help. my skin is not in too bad condition, but could be better.
there is a shop in town which sells jane irdale, but i have never took any notice of it. i will go in and have a look, its not good though when my dd is trying to pull everything off the shelves!

then you are 'the person' to ask!! wow, I'd be there in a flash stealing the samples!!!

The Clarins beauty flash balm? I have just had a look for stockists of the Jane A products, but no joy, it says to call head office. I am in Devon, near Plymouth.

My skin is just so dullsville. Normal/greasy chin and forehead. Dry cheeks and sides of nose. The oast 2 or so yrs has seen my skin really lose elastisity.

I have a Dior one which is good but I don't like the fact one has to spray it on.

MascaraOHara · 21/11/2007 16:54

I switched to Dior 'Dior Light' a few years ago and have to say I haven't looked back. I was using Estee Lauder before that

ClaphamLauren · 21/11/2007 17:03

pirategirl - if you are losing elasticity then you should try the Clarins Extra Firming. It's a lovely foundation!

Jane Iredale can be difficult to track down, if you find anywhere to try it then let me know the colour you like and I can always post one out if you paypal me the dosh. They sell the sample ones for £17 which is about half the price of the normal ones just not such a fancy compact!

turquoise · 21/11/2007 17:06

I use Clarins true comfort, with instant light perfector underneath it - it would take more than a foundation to make me look dewy but it does its best.

lizandlulu · 21/11/2007 17:26

my mum has chanticille one, but i havent tried it, i dont even know if it would be my shade. i know it is shallow but i like something with nice packaging, and it just looks a bit 'old ladyish' sorry

I've just been bought Barbara Daly's mousse foundation from Tesco - I think it might be my fave foundation ever.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 21/11/2007 17:49

Avon Perfect Wear is the best ever! Trust me on that.. I have spent more than I can afford on a few occasions only to get a "fairly good" result. This one will give you perfect looking skin for HOURS!

pirategirl · 21/11/2007 17:53

clapham, really !!! tbh that would be great, is that 17 for the 30ml one, ???

I will save this thread if I come across it for shades, thankyou.

The Clarins extra firming foundation, I am guessing this is ok for dry bits too then, cos the word firm, brings to mind cement like qualitites and flakes !!!

I swear by Individualist by Estee Lauder. I love it. It truly gives you a flawless complexion.

lizandlulu · 21/11/2007 18:25

lennygirl, thats not like my mums!! mind you she has had it for a while, so maybe they have changed the packaging!

New YSL one (with the big brush, like the touche eclat) is gorgeous and I usually hate wearing foundation on my fairly dry skin.
