my skin is fairly dry and i have recently bought a clinique super moisture foundation and a mary kay one. they are ok, but nothing to shout about. i want one that makes my skin look dewy and perfect! i know it is alot to ask but want opinions on other ones.

I use Clinique (in a bottle) but I moisturise really well before applying (and leave the moisturiser to absorb, for about 5 minutes before applying) I think the secret is a very good moisturiser. I have very dry skin and I use Nivea. It's fantastic.

frostythesnowmum · 21/11/2007 18:36

este lauder even the girls on the benefit and lancome counters agree its the best!

littlelamb · 21/11/2007 19:56

I use Max Factor colour adapt over Benefit concealer and then dab Benefit highbeam on top and it makes my (currently very ropey thanks to pg hormones) look fantastic.

Elphaba · 21/11/2007 20:01

use Estee Lauder double wear and I love it.

PuppyDogTails · 21/11/2007 20:17

I use Chanel Vitalumiere Creme - I have dry skin and it does give a dewy flawless finish. I love it, it is quite heavy though so may not be to everyone's taste.

CodDickinson · 21/11/2007 20:56

STOP STOP STOP YOU CAN DO THIS COS IT NEEDS TO GO TO THE MUSMNET THINGEY

CodDickinson · 21/11/2007 20:58

chocolatespiders · 21/11/2007 21:01

love channel foundation

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 21/11/2007 22:07

You clearly all want to spend a king's ransome.. which is fine.. but honestly try the Avon Perfect Wear one.. you'll be surprised! I was.

Heated · 21/11/2007 22:11

The M&S range is Clarins by another name, minus the lovely packaging.

Mac Foundation is not cheap but good for dry, starting-to-age skin.

onefootinthegravy · 21/11/2007 22:13

I love Estee Lauder Double wear - and never use anything else its fab!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 21/11/2007 22:15

And look it's on offer! Usually £12! At the moment two for a tenner! You've nothing to lose! It's great I promise..

oregonianabroad · 21/11/2007 22:21

This is the second time this week I was about to ask a style question and it was already there... odd.

WHat I want to know is, what does foundation do exactly? I have suddenly noticed my once-dewey skin starting to, well, age (gasp!); I also have dry skin but now I have noticeable pores over my cheeks -- will foundation cover this up?

Any help gratefully received.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 21/11/2007 22:24

Oregon, it gives your face a lovely base coat and a good foundation applied properly, will cover blemishes, even out skin tone and hold make up on your face most of the day.

oregonianabroad · 21/11/2007 22:35

Thanks SHPHH.
Do you need a liquid one or can you get the same efect from a compact? I use a clinique compact thingie (I don't even know if it is a foundation, that's how crap I am at this).

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 21/11/2007 22:52

Compacts are usually powder based (although you do get liquids that "turn to powder" and powders that "work without a liquid"). IMO you're better off getting a liquid although if you've never used a foundation you will probably be best sticking to a lighter one, maybe one of the illuminating ones.

Or even a mousse type one Sorry for all the Avon links.. I like Avon Foundation mousse is quite a new idea (you can get lots of brands now) but it's easy to apply and feels nice and light

Here's one of the light/illuminating liquid ones

hester · 21/11/2007 23:00

I use Bobbi Brown tinted balm, too - it's great for when your skin is dehydrated, but gives only light coverage (which is fine for me, but if you prefer fuller coverage you might want a proper foundation).

I also LOVE Becca. They do a skin tint (tinted moisturiser) which is just lovely quality. They have a shop in South kensington and also a mail-order website.

If I can't get either of those, I go for Stila tinted moisturiser, which gives quite good coverage.

No wonder I'm broke. Really should get into this Avon habit...

lizandlulu · 22/11/2007 09:48

my friend does avon, and the only drawback is that i dont know what colour to have. i am fair but with really ruddy cheeks which always makes it difficult for me to choose a correct match. i know i could send things back, but my friend has 2 children, the oldest is just over 2, and i hate making work for her!! but i will give the avon one a try, thanks. its not too dear, so if it doesnt suit me then i will look elsewhere!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 22/11/2007 09:52

L&L.. Avon's stuff is supposed to be "colour match" so you only need choose vaguely the right colour and it will be ok. Not sure if I agree with that or not. What I do is buy Nude and add a bit of bronzer (powder in compact also Avon) as I blend it in. For me this works really well. I haven't got the best skin but you'd think I had with this foundation.

starfish2 · 22/11/2007 10:25

Lilylolo is fab, I agree. I love it. I also like Prescriptives Traceless.

ClaphamLauren · 22/11/2007 11:46

That M&S/Clarins rumour is just that, a rumour, by the way.

lizandlulu · 22/11/2007 14:25

shphh, have you tried the avon mineral powder personal match foundation? it looks really good, but dont know if it would be ok for dry skin?would it just flake?

OP posts:
Dinosaur · 22/11/2007 14:37

I like YSL Perfect Touch.

Heated · 22/11/2007 20:13

Clarins definitely supply the M&S skincare range...whether exactly the same ingredients is unknown but can be just a perfume difference.

Face wash, Clarins £11.50, M&S £4.50 - buy an M&S one and compare!

HeyThereBert · 22/11/2007 20:15

boots intelligent foundation (orsomething)
or the dewy lookin one they do.
