Shoes and rainy days

Please could you tell me what shoes you wear in the UK when it's showery? Every year I struggle to know what to wear, particularly if we're away, and we might be sightseeing and walking quite a lot around a city getting wet, but then wanting to go into a reasonable restaurant and I don't want to wear walking boots or wellington boots in the summer! Does everyone just wear trainers? Do they not get soaking wet or do you choose waterproof leather ones? Obviously if we go for country walks I'll put proper walking boots on, or if it's really warm and a light shower I don't mind wearing sandals/flipflops and getting wet.

Leather trainers. Canvas or suede ones are no good.

If it’s warm and there’s showers I wear my salt waters as they are waterproof or my flip flops.

City walking, it's trainers (Geox do nice smart and waterproof ones).

Also Doc Martens. I have a pair in very soft leather and they get worn with jeans, leggings, dresses... everything in my wardrobe really!

Sandals with a platform heel.

I wouldn't walk miles in the rain be it summer or winter, so i wouldn't be going into a restaurant after walking ages in the rain.

However i'm happy to do the school run in flip flops in the rain in summer, or nip between shops. So - flip flops is my answer :)
