Help with lovely summer dresses for this fatty please!

Hi all,

You’re all fabulous so looking for your help. It’s my partner’s 50th next month and I’m in the middle of planning a lovely (UK) break away as a surprise for him. We should have been going to New York but of course can’t, so I’m trying to make this really special. The only thing is. I have nothing to wear. I want lovely summer dresses that will do for days out as well as evenings I suppose, so smart/casual? I’m overweight (size 18ish), 5’4” and an apple shape. Not huge boobs but not tiny (C cup).

Could anyone link to things that I could look at please, that have worked for you if you’re a similar size/shape? I’ve spent a fortune on this break and all the extras so need to be thrifty, especially as I’ll need to by a few things (I really have nothing suitable at the mo!)

Thanks so much in advance!

There's a thread called something like 'what dresses are you wearing this summer?', lots of great recommendations but might end up being very expensive Grin

Thank you! I’ve looked on there and can’t see much (or anything really) for the fuller of figure! Or for my budget, yes. Grin Hope for some inspiration!

I'd have a look at Asda, Sainsbury's, Matalan if your budget is tight?

I'd maybe get a maxi dress, a shorter tunic dress that you can also wear over jeans, a maxi skirt, some magic shorts and longer t shirts, a couple of plain camis that match the maxi skirt and your jeans?

There's also a nice shirred waist maxi skirt at JD Williams £20, you can wear with a black cami for evening and a t shirt for day?

Have you had a browse on Yours? They have some midaxi dresses (between a midi and a maxi!) that would work well on someone your height and shape.

Oddly enough even though I don’t normally like their stuff I also found some nice bits on H and M. Worth a look.

I dn't know what your budget is but Sahara London have some lovely dresses and are generously sized, around the £150 mark.

Some of the Boden shirt dresses are lovely and worth trying. I buy a lot from H and M and they fit well. Also try next, I have a fab long summer dress from them and I am wearing it to death! John Lewis also have a sale on but I did not find many summer things in size 18.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! @Bagelsandbrie I’ll definitely have a look at Yours, but I’ve previously always found ‘plus size’ clothes to fit me in a really weird frumpy way. I’m not sure if it’s the way they’re cut or what the problem is. There are some lovely styles though and the bonus is that they are definitely made for people like me who want to hide the tops of my arms etc. Thank you.

@ChiefInspectorParker yes, definitely a C. Bras are one thing I do have right I think-weirdly for my shape, I actually wear padded bras to make my boobs more in proportion with the rest of my body! Grin

Keep the suggestions coming please-it’s all really helpful!

East has lovely dresses that can be dressed up. And no polyester
