How do you get smooth and shiny hair

Admittedly don't spend long on my hair, wash, dry, go. So I do feel like it looks a mess. I think I have the hairdryer too hot and fast when I dry and I brush continuously. I always have these weird short bits which stick up at the back and it just looks frizzy.

What are your tips and products you use to get smooth, silky and frizz free hair?

Silk pillow or turban at night. Olaplex once a week and lay off the heat. Try washing it less- could you do every other day? All these made a huge difference to me!

Wash with cool water and rinse with cold if you can tolerate it. Use a good conditioner. I often put John Fride frizzease in before I dry it. If you must dry with a hairdryer use the coolest setting or even though it takes a while leave it to air dry. Finish off with a tiny amount of wax. For special occasions wash with rainwater ( unbelievable results) or get a water softening filter for your shower.

Maybe embrace the hair you have? FYI I would love, love, love curly hair. I had mine permed back in the late 80s (corkscrew curls like Kylie). Lasted about 3 weeks in my hair. Total waste of money. If I curl my hair with curlers, it will have dropped out before I've done my makeup.

I hate my hair to be honest, it's got a funny kink in it and it gets in my face so I put it behind my ear so the kink goes ever worse around the ears. I have short fly away bits. I have looked into getting it permanently straightened.

I wash it 3/4 times a week so not everyday. I don't think I am using a good quality shampoo, what do people recommend?

Ok- will try and dry on a cooler setting. Trouble is I don't get much time to get ready- normally 10 mins so often rush and don't do it nicely. Apart from straightening it, which I don't like anymore anyway I don't really know how to style it nicely like other people seem able to do. I haven't found my look with it despite being 40. If I left it wet the whole hair would go frizzy not just the top.

Probably do need a treatment, years of highlights and straightening haven't helped. I ve just never known what to do with it. Will look into the heat protector, de frizzer.

I can 100% relate to this! Story of my life! Every word. It's not always what it's cracked up to be. Although admittedly after years of highlights the moisture has gone somewhat and it's easier to curl. But it's still lovely and silky soft fresh from a blowdry (only wash and blow dry my hair once a week).

FATEdestiny I could have written that too. I've even had hairdressers assure me they can curl my hair, they really can't. And now I'm old its getting even finer, straighter and hopeless! I'd bloody love thicker hair that I could style, even a little bit. So sick of having a bloody bob because its the only style that works for me!

Wash it in a bath of Epsom salts and a spoonful of almond oil. Rinse in cold water. Towel dry, (pat don't rub) comb, then just gently blow dry the roots but let the tips dry naturally.

You need an airstyler! I just left mine somewhere and I had to just use a hairdryer and it was kinky and frizzy. Awful. I immediately went out and bought a replacement. I went for the Babyliss 1000 as it was on offer but there is a cheaper model with just 2 round heads. They don’t rotate, they’re not fancy but they give me smooth hair. I’ve also had a salon Olaplex treatment and use their products at home and rate them.

How dry is it? Frizz can be caused by lack of moisture, which in hair is often lack of sebum/oil (fat basically rather than water). It could be that the shampoo you’re using is stripping the oil out and then the excess heat is making the situation worse. Do you use a heat protector spray before you dry? That could make a big difference.
I have very dry hair and use Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil shampoo, conditioner and heat protector. My hair used to be a frizzy mess and is now smooth and silky. It is very rich so makes ordinary hair greasy, but if your hair is anything like mine it’s worth thinking about.

I have the SteamPod 3, and think it’s brilliant for making my hair smooth and swingy, like young hair not 50+ with frizz underneath.

Get a Keratin treatment at the hair dressers. They are expensive but incredible results. You won't need to do anything more than blast your hair dry for 3-4 months and it will look like you've had a professional blow dry.

I use opalex once a week it's amazing stuff and well worth the money I think.

I bleach my hair and use olaplex 3 and 6. Still goes fluffy on drying but after straightening my hair is silky and shiny
