Switching GHDs for Cloud 9?

My old wide plate GHDs died just before christmas, and DH got me a new set of the standard ones as a replacement for christmas. But they don't seem to straighten my hair as well! It's thick and curly, and is frizzing about 5 mins after straightening, which never used to happen before. I've noticed that the plates on the new straighteners don't actually meet, and I'm not sure they get as hot as the old ones?

I feel awful for thinking about replacing them when they were a gift and are still newish, but I'm wondering about getting a set of wide-plate cloud 9s instead. Are they likely to be any better? Has anyone had the same issue with the new GHDs and found cloud 9 to be better? Thanks!

I hate to suggest this but is there any chance he may have accidentally bought fake ones? I’d call ghd and check if you can. Was a thoughtful present though from your dh!

I bought standard Cloud 9's after my ancient GHD's packed up after 15 years and can recommend them.

I bought some Cloud 9s when my old GHDs broke because I'd read that GHDs aren't as good anymore. I'm not overly impressed with the Cloud 9s. They do an okay job straightening my hair but there's lots of little features that I find very annoying compared to my trusty old GHDs.

I said on another thread the other day that I think both are poor. I still have some original GHDs and the newer ones just don’t compare. I think they have reduced the temperature. I got Cloud 9 as someone said they were founded by the same person who founded GHD. I didn’t think they were any good either.

I’m really unwilling to grow my hair again as the newer straighteners all seem to be crap, unless you have hair that is pretty much already straight.

@CantHaveTooMuchChocolate sadly no, I was there when they were bought - John Lewis!

Thanks everyone, looks like it's back to the drawing board then.... Any other suggestions?

I love my new cloud 9 wide plate ones! Better than GHD in my opinion and can choose heat and the highest heat is hotter than GHDs.

I owned GHDs for years but glad I swapped over when my last pair broke.

I don’t have the wide plate but I do use Cloud Nine after having GHD for years and they are much better. You are right, GHD do not get as hot as they used to. I gave my last pair away.

I have mini cloud 9's for my short pixie and my think they are just ok
Better than the GHD though which frazzled the hair

Have you registered your GHDs? I got the oracle a couple of years ago and noticed it creaked a bit when I squeezed the plates together- they were great at repairing/replacing. I would ask them to repair before buying something else.

I’ve just replaced my ancient wide GHDs for the L’Oréal Steampod 3.0. It’s pricey but I think it’s really good and I’ve finally mastered how to do waves with them too. I got a good discount buying from eBay with a damaged box.
