@Dressingup

Thanks I’m just desperate to find a dress that makes me feel better about myself I’ve had such a shit year
I completely understand!! Same here (for a wedding though).
CocoandCleo · 16/06/2021 13:58

I'm glad you liked my suggestion OP! Please post again when it arrives, with your opinion as I would be interested to know.

I agree that sexy doesn't have to mean bodycon, but it also can mean bodycon if you want it to. The dress is below the knee and shows 0 cleavage. Just because something is tight doesn't mean it isn't classy! A dress that simple is timeless.

Also perhaps OP wants to look dressed up even though London is more casual these days. Maybe she cares more about the opinion of her husband and herself rather than loads of restaurant randoms Smile

Hope you have a lovely time!

Dressingup · 16/06/2021 15:14

Yes I also want to feel good I haven’t been able to dress up in for ever my partner never gets to see me in a fitted dress I want to feel special for once

@CoraPearl think we just have different taste that dress you linked would look like a bin bag on me kind of dress I would wear on holiday with sandals not to a fancy restaurant

That's fair enough, and yes, we have very different tastes which is the wonderful thing about clothing - there's something for everyone. But I know that if I walked into a restaurant like The Ledbury (now closed), The Wolseley, Scott's or anywhere of its ilk on a paid date wearing that red dress, my gentleman friend(s) would not be impressed as nothing screams hooker more than a red (or any colour) bodycon dress.

But hey, what do I know Grin

CoraPearl · 16/06/2021 15:47

PS. Happy Anniversary OP! Hope you have a lovely dinner.

You look amazing! I think that red dress would look fantastic on you

excelledyourself · 16/06/2021 19:40

Go for the red dress, OP. You're not an escort and your husband isn't paying for your company. I'm sure he'll be so proud to be seen with you in that dress.

Vohgue · 17/06/2021 09:24

I'd buy something new if you can afford it.

That navy dress has a Closet London vibe but I cant see anything great on the website at the moment.

Some cute dresses in French Connection atm and not sure if you've looked at ted baker but they are cut for pear shapes.

Vohgue · 17/06/2021 09:31

Dont know about quality and length but gets good reviews? www.johnlewis.com/french-connection-slinky-long-sleeve-wrap-dress/beaujolais/p3837928

Verite1 · 17/06/2021 11:11

You look lovely in that navy dress. Personally I prefer the Reiss dress to the red one but that is mainly as I am not keen on one shouldered dresses.

And you should absolutely dress up if you want to. I hate it when people pile in and “helpfully” tell people (who have clearly said they want to get dressed up) how casual London is. It is true that it is generally more casual, but you can absolutely get dressed up as well and no one would care less (because that is the beauty of London). I never care if I am the most dressed up or the least dressed up in a restaurant - as long as I’m happy with what I’m wearing.

KingdomScrolls · 17/06/2021 11:14

London generally has a more casual vibe even in posh restaurants. I'd feel very self conscious in that red dress in that environment

Dressingup · 17/06/2021 21:31

it was a closest London dress I was wearing I’m still on the hunt for a dress I no London can be more casual but I haven’t been able to dress up in over 2 years so I’m going all out

Love the colour on you OP but not sure it does you any favours.

If your legs are your best asset, then maybe something a little shorter and floatier?

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 18/06/2021 10:01

It looks a bit small OP but the colour is amazing on you!

Maybe have another look at Closet London again if you know their dresses fit you well?

Vohgue · 18/06/2021 10:35

I like it! I'd probably wear spanx to smooth the underwear lines a bit but it looks great

Fiftypounds · 18/06/2021 10:48

@Vohgue I’m actually not wearing any pants in the photo Blush

Rina66 · 18/06/2021 11:42

This in real life is looks amazing. It's a spot organza with puff sleeves, sweetheart neckline and button front, you could undo it a bit to show off your legs. It's amazing value for £33, it's a shame they styled it as such a day dress, I think it's too dressy for day.
