Grey roots, bleached ends. What do I do????!!!!

I have fine, shoulder length hair which, last time I saw it in its natural "glory" was dark blonde/mouse. For the past 10 years or so I've had 3 shades of blonde highlights.

Due to lockdowns and time constraints I last had my hair done a year ago. I am now at the stage where I can see quite a lot of grey which I am not yet ready to embrace but I am also toying with not having any more highlights as they have just ruined the condition of my hair and it seems mad to spend the best part of £150 to end up with straw-like hair.

My salon decided not to re-open after lockdown which is sad but not all bad as it was probably time for a change but I'm also not feeling very confident about going somewhere new when I'm not sure what I want/what is possible. Prices have hiked massively here since lockdown and whilst I wouldn't mind spending a fair bit if I'm going to look lovely, I cannot afford expensive mistakes.

Can any of you wise women tell me what my options are with colour? I'd say my highlights had probably grown out to the top of my ears and (having trimmed my hair during lockdown) I don't want to lose much ofthe length when its cut.

Could you have it layered to lose the old colour on top whilst keeping the length? Your hair may be a lot better condition wise for not having the colour damage any more, but nothing to stop you growing out the layers and having the highlights back in if you feel it's not for you in the long run, it took me a couple of goes before I accepted being grey. I like it, it suits my skin tone and my hair is in fantastic condition now.

I'm the same and had hi lift tint highlights, no bleach ones, a good cut and I'm very pleased.

@rosesarered321 I thought you could only have highlift on previously untreated hair, so does it blend in with existing higlights? I just can't imagine having the "top" and "bottom" of my hair treated differently. Plus the ends of my hair just feel too blonde so not sure how it would blend in.

There were some highlights on the ends definitely, not a massive amount as I haven't had any highlights since Feb 2020.
It actually seems to have improved the condition as the grey hair looked very coarse and wire.

Wirey that was meant to say.!

What are my options if I didn't want to be blonde any more, if I still have 60%ish highlighted hair?
