Hair topper wearers advice please

Evening all.

I’m taking a bit of a jump with posting this as I’m feeling really vulnerable about my hair loss, I’m 36.

I have hair loss associated to PCOS, it’s always been thin on top but it’s much worse following my two children, blood work is fine so can put it down just to worsening PCOS hair loss. Not much to be done about it medically.

I was hoping for any advice from people who wear hair toppers? Where to shop? How to colour match? Anything? I am so, so insecure about my hair loss. I’ve tried coloured dry shampoo, hair fibres, having my hair cut and pulled forwards but it’s got to the point where I even the slightest breeze moves my hair and shows my scalp/the thinness.

Sorry you're not feeling great about your hair.

I don't have much hair loss but do enjoy wearing extensions and the occasional wig.

I get mine from an Afro/Caribbean hairdressers (i'm in London) because they have tons of great styles and they seem to be cheaper while still being human hair and lots of them good quality. It's also best to try on, so don't order from amazon etc.

I would suggest going for something different than your normal hairstyle so your not exactly pretend it's natural, can be more like 'going for a fun new look!'

I have a topper which looks really great on, I also have a wig which looks fab. Looking at your photo, I'm not sure you have enough hair for a topper to clip into. You may be better with a wig (or it could just be the photo). Try to get to a local wig shop who will be very experienced with hair loss issues. They will put you at ease and will really boost your confidence.

Trust me, you will get one and think 'why did I waste so much time/money on all the other stuff, when I could have got a wig'.

Once you start wearing a topper or wig, you will get used to it quickly. I'm a little concerned topper clips will cause further hair loss, if you are hair is particularly fragile.

Do you live in a city? Trendco is a chain. Make an appointment and try different ones on. You don't need to make a decision there and then.

I would suggest a large base if you go for a topper. 5 inch by 6 inch. Silk is most realistic scalp. Try some styles on and then if prices seem too high, look on Etsy or Instagram for something similar.

Hi Lucinda Ellery do amazing hair lace which are impossible to detect have a look at their website. Only thing is its not cheap. If pcos is causing your hair loss I wonder if its worth seeing a tricologist and getting an anti- antrogen like spironolactone prescribed to help with hair loss. Its so stressful, hope you find a solutionyou are comfortable with.

Are you on instagram? Have a look at mytrichjourney. She has bald patches due to trichotilermania (absolutely not spelt right!) and wears toppers. They look exactly like her hair

Simply wigs at Huddersfield are good, and you can return if you are not happy with what you send for, and also you will be entitled to a discount if losing your hair for medical reasons,
I was thinking of getting a topper, but the colurs they had were not matching my own hair, i think you would be better with a wig, as you need quite a bit of hair to clip it onto
Good luck,
I understand how you feel, although my hair loss is more at the back and i can cover it up to a point
