How old am I - with a twist!

I genuinely think a lot of the 'how old am I' are a bit silly, so this post is of my hand.

Have my hands aged? Do my hands tell you I'm 66!? I'm 35 by the way, I've
No interest in being coy about this

I’m 43 but recently noticed my hands are beginning to age. Do you think they look older than my age? If so, is that just down to dryness?

I looked at the photo before seeing what your age is and I thought that your hand looks 35, with dry skin. It looks dry rather than old, there's a difference. I'm 15 years older and no amount of moisturiser is going to change mine.

RedthroatedCaracara · 14/06/2021 00:32

They’re completely understandable too, ageing can be hard for many

And you think these "how old ..." threads make ageing less hard for the many you speak of?

callmemaybee · 14/06/2021 01:29

@RedthroatedCaracara I note that you’re placing words in my mouth.

I don’t want to derail the thread - as always, if you find content online that frustrates you, you always have the option to ignore it. It seems like the internet isn’t for you - I can assure that no one will mind if you log out.

Grin if you don't like people engaging in a discussion then maybe Mumsnet isn't for you.

mumjustmum · 14/06/2021 09:27

I'm making a big effort from now on to moisturise more! Also just ordered cotton gloves, thanks for that tip.
I'm far too lazy with my skin care regime!!

I’m 49 and your hands look the same as mine OP

Mrsmophead · 14/06/2021 10:31

You have lovely hands OP. Not in the least bit old. I see many many many hands in a day and mine are watched very closely. Probably more recognisable than my face🤣
Hand cream is vital. Only in the last few years I've even thought about proper SPF for them too.

Smarshian · 14/06/2021 10:36

I’m 33 and these are my hands. I’d agree that yours look a little bit dry but not old.

Oh, I want to join!

I'm 27 and think my hands look a bit older than that, likely due to the hand sanitisers and lack of moisturiser Confused

A tip I got from an old college tutor (beauty) when applying products to your face (cleansers, toners, acids, moisturisers and especially SPF) always use the same on the backs of your hands too. I'm 31.

my hands look ok when i'm warm, but when i'm cold they shrivel up and look like Tollund Man's

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 14/06/2021 11:08

What about me?

(I know I should use a bit more moisturiser but I can't get the top of the bottle.)

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles Grin

Once you get the top off, a smidge of moisturiser will do wonders!

Okbutnotgreat · 14/06/2021 12:48

I think your hands are lovely. I’m 51 and mine have huge blue veins and the tendons are very visible so I think I actually have much older hands sadly.

mumjustmum · 14/06/2021 12:50

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles now THOSE are some elegant hands. That bone structure! Have you had Botox in your hands!?

@CafeMochaVodkaValiumLate your hands look very lovely. Great tip, thank you.

I've moisturised twice today.

Twoleftsocks. I’m not saying your hands look old but have you thought of asking the British Museum if they offer manicures? Maybe try contact someone who works in the Egyptian galleries? I agree your hands look elegant. You absolutely have pianist fingers.

frugalkitty · 14/06/2021 15:48

For me, it's not that my hands have aged exactly, it's more that I glance down occasionally and see my mother's hands! When did that happen? Confused

mumjustmum · 14/06/2021 18:51

@frugalkitty oh I know that feeling. I have my mums legs and ankles! Absolutely identical

blaisealex · 14/06/2021 19:02

Your hands look a lot older than the other posters hands who are also in their 30s.

Before I saw your age, I genuinely thought 50s.

Tlollj · 14/06/2021 19:10

Everyone on here has lovely hands. My look like a packet of pork sausages, especially in this weather.

Mamette · 14/06/2021 19:31

I woke up from a nap yesterday and got an awful fright when I saw my hand, I couldn’t believe how much it had aged since the last time I looked, and how had I not noticed this happening?

Then I slowly realised that I had slept with my hand under me and it had taken on the imprint of my waffle pillowcase.

Juancornetto · 14/06/2021 20:49

I just took a photo of my hand to see if it looked old and was reminded of my Grandpa once telling me I had pterodactyl hands. He wasn't wrong and so I claim the prize of the oldest looking hands

Draculaswedding · 15/06/2021 06:41

I have a genetic condition that has amongst its various signs , prematurely aged looking hands. They’re bony, gnarled and wrinkly looking except immediately after putting hand cream on. Then they look a bit smoother for a few minutes. My hands have always looked at least 20 years older then my face. They’re a bit like TwoLeftSocksWithHoles ones.
