Please help me find a flattering summer dress

I know you can help me with this, style gurus of Mumsnet.

I am 5'10, big busted and hour-glassish but bottom slightly slimmer than top if you know what I mean (size 12-14 generally but 16 for bust). I used to have a flat stomach but menopause and lockdown have rounded it off.

I'm looking for a summer dress for weddings etc. I suit blues but in high summer can carry off something with a black base. I like block colours and geometric patterns but not small flowers or itsy-bitsy stuff - happy to go long or midi.

My budget is under 200 (the more under the better :-)

All good ideas very welcome.

I'm short. But honestly I've never had a Boden dress that I didn't think was flattering.

Their fabrics are always nice and cool. And their returns are fab. So maybe worth a browse?

Toast have some lovely dresses

sundaysurfer · 13/06/2021 12:03

Thanks - will browse Boden. I actually have quite a few winter dresses from there - am maybe looking for something a bit more special though....

sostrange yes, a wrap dress might work - it needs to be a bit dressy - I like your link a lot, especially if the blue one is slight shiny (otherwise it might not be dressy enough).

Toast won't work for me - I was actually looking just before I posted. I need a lowing neck and definite a normal/low waist otherwise the dress just hangs of my boobs and I like HUGE. In the old days when my waist was more defined, it was easier .....

sostrange I am actually a little bit in love with the pretty kitty stuff. Any idea if they are true to size?

Yay! I don’t, I’m afraid as the dress I was on love with was out of stock in 12/14 when I wanted one. I would probably order a size up as I’m an ‘e’ cup and the waist can belted in. So I’m a 12 but would opt for a 14. Maybe get two sizes and return one?

sundaysurfer · 13/06/2021 12:38

That's the one I'm looking at! (Even if I did say I was trying to avoid flowers...). Perfect colouring for me. Thank you!

(My post about Toast is totally incomprehensible - sorry - had a different language autocorrecting in background)

I love the Prettykitty one.

I don't know whether this would be your style - it's a bit boho, but I wear mine with high wedges with ankle straps and would add jewellery and a floppy hat for smart days. It's lovely on me (5'5" and size 14) so would be even lovelier on you with your figure! You need a slip underneath as it's a bit see through, so I got a nude pink jersey one from Amazon that works fine.

Not sure if the prints would be too small, or even if this is your style, but
this website might be worth a look - I’ve recommended it a few times. This dress is a wrap dress shop.gabrielleparker.com/product/silk-bonita-wrap-dress/
and Moroccan Blue is very flattering if blue suits you - I have a long shirt which I love.
They also have tea dresses, for a shorter length. All less than half your budget. 😁
