Shein sizing

Cazzamoomoo · 12/06/2021 10:26

Has anyone ordered from Shein? What is their sizing like? I'm presuming on the small side? I'd appreciate it if people could give me a comparison with what sizes they are in other shops.

I'm a 16 or 18 in Next and other shops that use vanity sizing. Usually an 18 most other places. In places like Primark and H&M I usually need a 20.

I'm presuming I'd need a 20?

I think it all depends on what it is your ordering!
Some things I have are true to size, and others are on the small side!
I’ve found trousers are true to size, tops depends what style they are.
The reviews are really good to give you an idea if to size up or not!
But I’ve loved everything I’ve got from there and I always get comments asking my top etc stuff is from!

Lookdeepintotheparka · 12/06/2021 10:46

Agree it's variable! I've only ever ordered for my 14 yr DD and mostly she's been XS in everything but a couple of tops and a pair of sports leggings were too small for her. If I was ordering for myself, if be tempted to size up in most things!

I would say the sizing and quality is very similar to Primark.

Lemonlemon88 · 12/06/2021 10:47

You need to read the reviews on each item, that will tell you if fabric is decent and what sizing is like as it varies hugely.

cocoloco987 · 12/06/2021 10:48

As above read the reviews for each individual item as they vary and reviews normally contain real life pictures as well as sizing advice. In general though things seem to be true to size

TomNookk · 12/06/2021 10:48

read the reviews on everything. i go off them. trousers and tank tops i size down

SiobhanSharpe · 12/06/2021 10:48

If you're ordering anything fitted definitely go up at least one size and also check the measurements on the size chart they give. I think they are on the small side.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 12/06/2021 11:58

Most things give the measurements and these always seem true to me, agree read any reviews of the item and zoom in on pictures to get a feel for the fabric. I have had some amazing quality stuff from them and one or two rubbish but overall i have been happy.

My dd ordered bikinis and swim wear and she is normally a size small. She ordered medium and they fit perfectly.

Unfortunately on the plus sized section, there isn't as many reviews and most of them are American which makes it harder to work out what I'd need.

Thank you all. I will order some tops to try and see how I get on. I'm usually a bit smaller in tops anyway.

Just as an aside OP, I'm not in the UK and we get hammered by the customs charge which is only applied later when it's due to be delivered. So it's not always a cheaper option, just for us it's a selection of different items.

If you do get charged for customs though, you can email them after you have paid and they will refund you half.

Cazzamoomoo · 12/06/2021 12:33

@isthismylifenow thanks for the info. I'll look into this.

It's just one of the better places I've found with a good range of plus sized clothes lately and wanted to give it a try. Price isn't so much of an issue for me as choice.

No additional charges to UK and delivery seems faster since Brexit.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 12/06/2021 15:48

I read the reviews and ordered an XL swimming costume and just L t-shirt; costume fits fine, t-shirt still a little large!

VienneseWhirligig · 12/06/2021 15:51

I'm wearing a dress from Shein today. Check the size chart for each item (they are all different) and compare the size for the item against the size range for each of the available sizes - that gives you an idea of whether to size up or if both ranges are similar, go for your usual size. I find them fairly reliable.

SallyCinnabon · 13/06/2021 21:14

So variable OP. I ordered one top in my size (14) and it was very tight on the chest, another top in my size was so big the sleeves were hanging past my fingers.

Just a warning too, most of the tops are fairly decent quality (for the price) but one tshirt I bought, which looked like a cotton tshirt was actually a horrible hard and shiny material in real life!

prettylittlestar · 17/06/2021 17:01

I'm still waiting for my £54 order, from them. I have complained on Instagram asking if they can contact the courier Sad

cocoloco987 · 22/06/2021 12:03

My last 2 orders came in 2 and 5 days after giving me a 2 week delivery time. Some really nice knitwear and clothing for dc true to size or slightly big but not overly. Not had anything small yet. Fidget toys for dc are great quality too

Sisisimone · 22/06/2021 14:38

I haven't ordered from Shein for a couple of years now but remember that S, M, L, XL used to translate to 6, 8, 10, 12. I'm sure that they have the actual dimensions of each garment though on the description which is obviously really helpful.

As an aside my teen dd has ordered recently and delivery was really quick. They didn't used to have a UK distributor and returns were sent back to France so its much improved in that respect

cocoloco987 · 22/06/2021 14:55

Xs is a 6 but they frequently don't have that - it's usually s -8 m-10 L-12-14 which seem to all run true slightly large so not much for the small/petite then plus sizes XL 2XL etc following on
