Grey hair and patchy purple shampoo :(

Just wondered how people use purple shampoo on their hair without it being patchy. I find even mixing a small drop with normal shampoo gives me annoying uneven purple patches on my hair!
Any ideas?

I've used lots of different ones and the same thing happens. Now thinking of ditching them altogether.

Add some lavender direct dye to your conditioner and comb through the hair on application. Much less drying than using purple shampoo too. I recommend the Shrine drops from Boots.

ChrissyPlummer · 12/06/2021 10:30

It’s patchy because your hair is more porous in some places. Happens with mine but I don’t mind having a few purple highlights!

dudsville · 12/06/2021 11:30

Racheycat! I'm off to google this, what a gift, thanks you! I have always wanted to try purple products but I have such dry hair and very few products are ok. The thought of adding dye to my own tried and tested products would be amazing.

neveradullmoment99 · 12/06/2021 13:27

Thanks. Don't really mind the purple highlights either but would really like to get it even sometimes.
Yes about it being porous in places.
I will try the lavender Salthouse I'm not fussed for the smell of it!

Salthouse? Although!

Would blue shampoo work better or any alternatives?
Recommendations for a silvery look without the purple?

Are you leaving it on too long?
Blue shampoo is for getting rid of orange tones and purple is for yellow tones

ufucoffee · 12/06/2021 13:49

What kind is it? The L'Oréal one is awful. I like the Bleach London one. it doesn't leave patchy bits

Hardly any time!

It takes really too much at the sides

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 12/06/2021 13:54

Only apply to the top ( scalp) but when I rinse it, it comes out STILL more at the sides!

Will try the bleach London.
Think it's the loreal serie expert or something like that

Try washing with normal shampoo, conditioning then using the purple one.

My brown dyed hair is at the bottom. The top to the sides is pretty light and grey but you don't see it in that photo

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 12/06/2021 14:01

It takes at the sides and never at the roots!

Sali Hughes, Guardian beauty writer has had her hair greyed ( it looks fabulous, but Sali never seems to take a bad photo,) her column this week is about shampoo for grey hair.

Like the silver at the top then it gets progressively lilac!

I use the Osmo Purple Shampoo and Conditioner and it does not leave my hair purple, my ears and hands yes, but not my hair.

Don't leave it on. Just wash as normal, rinse straight off.

It still really takes regardless.
