Summer dresses to hide a tummy

withgraceinmyheart · 09/06/2021 08:25

Can anyone show me which style of summer dress to wear to hide my belly? Just looking for basics, nothing expensive.

I’ve got big boobs and very curvy generally, but my tummy is out of proportion. All the dresses I’ve tried make me look 6 months pregnant.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

I would imagine maxi dresses do the job quite well :)

Basically something that skims but also shapes in at the waist but has a slightly eye drawing detail, such as pockets, below the waist, works well imo.

I thought so too! But everything I try in cinched under my boobs

Sounds good, have you seen anything like that this year? Everything seems to be a-line in the shops I normally look at

I think this type of style can work well. You can get them in thicker jersey style material - I have a few older ones from East and Monsoon that do the job. Possible alternative are those smock dresses that fall direct from the collarbone which are lovely and cool but sometimes can make one look bigger than they are. Like this:

Skater style, empire line, fit and flare would all work.

BarkingUpTheWrongRoseBush · 09/06/2021 11:52

shirt dresses seem to be working for me at the moment - even when I sit down. www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/thomasina-jersey-shirt-dress-palm-leaf-polka-dot-spaced/sty-j0862-mgr?cat=C1_S2_G4_G528

Do you prefer fitted or loose?

I have a very small waste with average boobs and big hips but I have a lower belly bulge that changes everything

Vertical stripes work well
Black (slimming, but only 'summer(ry) if in the right style
Maxi dresses that pull in under boobs and waste

Good luck! I usually struggle with summer clothes/dresses but I'm pregnant so this year will probably be even harder to find suitable clothes!

Miseryisabutterfly · 09/06/2021 22:49

A-line is always the most flattering style I find, whether billowy or closer fitting.

HackAttack · 09/06/2021 23:40

Wrap dresses all the way

KeyboardWorriers · 09/06/2021 23:45

What kind of wrap dresses @HackAttack? I have a belly whether I am overweight or underweight and have never found a wrap dress that didn't make me look pregnant. But maybe I am looking at the wrong type?

55378OO8 · 09/06/2021 23:48

Wrap dresses make me look pregnant. A line or empire line are best because they skim over the tum. Are you tall? I'm 5'2 and maxi dresses drown me, and I have relatively nice legs to show off.

HackAttack · 10/06/2021 00:14

I find the wrap has to be lower down, not under bust like this www.silkfred.com/boutiques/liquorish/clothing/mint-green-bird-and-floral-wrap-maxi-dress-with-lace-details

HackAttack · 10/06/2021 00:15

Or with some detail and always decent fabric www.silkfred.com/boutiques/bella-and-blue/clothing/black-plunge-maxi-dress

SadSongsAndWaltzes · 10/06/2021 00:22

I find 50s style high waist with a full skirt flattering - I'm small busted with a small waist but a 5-month baby sized lower belly. Also, loose legged jumpsuits can be quite good to draw attention to waist rather than tummy.
Maybe think about where you want to emphasise rather than what you want to hide, to give an idea of where to cinch in/ leave loose and flowy?

Houseofvelour · 10/06/2021 00:43

Following as I'm looking for some as well. I have big hips and boobs as well which doesn't help.

ElizabethTudor · 10/06/2021 19:42

I tried these on earlier today.
Good options, I had to size down in both, significantly.
