Rose gold jewellry

I'm looking for some rose gold
jewellery ie ring and bracelet. I can only find vermeil which i understand is plated. Can you get solid rose gold? If not, does the plating rub off on cheaper stuff? Does anyone have any recommendations for websites?? Not looking to spend loads - approx £200 for a bracelet but up to 1k for a ring if i love it. Thanks

I don't think you can get solid rose gold. I looked in to this when a necklace discoloured/the rose gold rubbed off. I won't bother with it anymore, same as white gold.

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 08/06/2021 07:49

I'm sorry @3britnee but that's just incorrect.
Rose gold is an alloy metal composed of yellow gold & white gold & copper which gives strength & colour.

All golds are alloys as 24 carat pure yellow is too soft & doesn't last as long

Cheaper / fashion jewellery is often silver coated in rose gold & that's why the colour wears off but this is usually reflected in the price of the jewellery

Not all white gold is rodhium plated - my engagement & wedding rings are handmade & 18 carat white gold with no rodhium & are still as perfect today as they were 18 years ago. However they do not look like platinum, they look like white gold & I love that soft colour.

My grandmother's wedding ring is 18 carat rose gold & also as perfect today as it was 70+ years ago

OP Good luck with your search

That's interesting, I really like rose gold but stopped considering it because its plated.

Where can you buy solid rose gold stuff then?

MooMinCow · 08/06/2021 08:31

You can buy solid rose gold, just have to hunt around for it! Try second hand/antique jewellery stores or if you want to splash out high end jewellers like Tiffany sell rose gold pieces (I have a few from the Paloma Picasso ‘Kisses’ and ‘Graffiti’ ranges).

UniBallEye · 08/06/2021 09:38

I think you need to have a look at jewellers who predominantly work with solid gold, and this will be reflected in the price of the item. For instance I think its very unlikely that you will get a solid rose gold bracelet for £200... plated, yes, loads of choice..

Even on sites like Alex Monroe there's an option to filter solid gold and you'll see the price difference clearly.

I like Anoushka for solid gold but it is pricey

Yes you can get solid rose gold, and solid white gold. As pps have said, the colour comes from the other metals mixed with the gold.

Mermaidwaves · 08/06/2021 15:42

You can get solid rose gold, 9ct mainly in high street jewellers but the choice is much smaller compared to white and yellow. Antique rings are often in solid rose gold so it's worth looking at second hand jewellery. I love rose gold too and wish it was more available, I'm not a fan of vermeil as I think the shade is wrong and it wears off too easily.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 08/06/2021 16:11

You can of course get solid rose gold. Up to about 18ct if I recall correctly. I used to work in high end jewellery, and own a few pieces myself. My wedding band was custom made and is 14ct rose gold, I have a couple pairs rose gold hoop earrings and a 14k rose gold chain, my engagement ring is rose gold and platinum, and my watch has some rose gold on it as well so it's definitely out there.

So yes, it is definitely possible. You just need to look in the right shops. 9ct is a very low percentage of gold and quite inexpensive, so I think if you're looking for a solid rose gold piece you need to look a bit higher end. What kind of ring were you looking for?
