Looking for a new everyday perfume - please help

I'm looking for a new everyday perfume, something that is light but feminine that I can wear on a normal everyday and potentially a little to work. I'm in my mid 20s.

Current perfumes I like are:

  • Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet: really light and unoffensive, I dislike heavy musky scents as they dry down weirdly on me but this stays nice all day long. I'm just a bit bored of it.
  • Lancome La Vie Est Belle: I really like this, looking for something similar
  • Prada Candy Kiss: I also really like this, it's sweet but not heavy or too musky and dries down pretty nicely on me.
  • Marc Jacobs Daisy: I liked this but wore it daily for several years so I'm bored of it now.

Others I have tried are:

  • Miss Dior and Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming: These are too heavy for me
  • Chloe Love Story: I have a sample of this and like it as it smells quite fresh yet feminine, this is the one I may buy.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thank you!

Also if you see a pattern in what I like and dislike in perfumes I would love to hear your thoughts. I really struggle in describing scents so it would be great to have some terminology to use if I ask someone on a perfume counter for recommendations.

Any of the Viva la Juicy line.

Bottles are vile but the scents are actually lovely, especially the gold one.

Flower by Kenzo

Thank you for your reply. I did use to like the original Viva La Juicy and wore it a lot as a teenager. I still have the bottle and went and smelt it but it smells a little too sweet for me now.

I have never smelt any of the others from the Viva La Juicy line so I will make a point to go and smell them when I go shopping today.

Thank you again!

Try one of the Monotheme ones from M&S. They're lovely and light, reasonable too!

Try a Perfume Society doiscovery box to testout some new ones - or visit nose.fr it's a french website where you can put in the fragrances you like and it will recommend other scents for you - I think you can order 5 samples for 10 Euros.

Or have a look at www.fragrantica.com/ to see what notes are in your existing favourites and compare with some others.

Zara Fragrances are supposed to be really really good. (My young adult sons wear a lot of the mens stuff, which includes really good dupes of big brand perfumes like Creed and Invictus).

Have a look here: Zara

If you scroll down a bit, you will see they have discovery sets where you can try before you buy or even 10ml bottles for £4.99.

If you Google the phrase, "Are Zara perfumes any good" have a look at the many many forums where they are discussed in detail!

Have you tried Stella McCartney perfumes? The Stella one (purple bottle) might work for you.
Otherwise second the idea to get a sample box from Perfume Society or similar. Frederic Malle do 12 samples for £38 or something.

Mar Jacobs dot is a lovely light scent.
Also, DKNY be delicious fresh blossom (light pink apple shaped bottle) is gorgeous for summer.

Navilana · 07/06/2021 12:39

Narciso Rodriguez perfumes are soft, bloomy, not musky or heavy. Maybe you could step inside a perfume shop and try out some of the perfumes that are simar to the ones you already like? Write them down to make things easier, some assistants really do know their stuff Smile Or as other pp suggested, take on a discovery box adventure Grin

I think you'd like SJP Lovely, op

alannabanana81 · 07/06/2021 19:30

dkny the original - long glass bottle - is so nice and fresh. i love it for everyday.

I’m the opposite to you and like heavier scents. Vera Wang Lovestruck was far to delicate for me but sounds like what you’re after. It’s a delicate sweeter (but not overly) scent if I recall correctly.

The blurb c&p:

‘There is an immediate attraction to the mouth-watering pink guava and mandarin which is infused with a gentle blend of tuberose and lotus blossom. At the base of the fragrance are precious wood sheer musk and addictive vanilla, fusing to create a fervent and graceful scent’

Elie Saab Le Parfum is nice or the also do a nice one called Girl of Now.

TSJ19 · 07/06/2021 20:22

D&g lightblue is perfect for everyday wear. Elle Saab is lovely as well. Calvin Klein Euphoria is also lovely and i always get asked what perfume im wearing if i have that on.

socalledfriend · 07/06/2021 20:24

To my nose, scents in the same category as the ones you have said you like would be Opium Black, Dior Addict, maybe Mugler Angel?

Basecamporbust · 07/06/2021 20:29

Jo Malone Poppy and Barley. So fresh, clean but with warmth and very feminine

randomkey123 · 07/06/2021 20:35

Joy by Dior is my current everyday, I absolutely love it and also there is a J'Adore in Joy which has a salty floral gentle scent. Perfect for summer.

Someone else mentioned Lovely by SJP - this is a gorgeous scent but my god if only she'd gone to a decent fragrance house to make it. It just evaporates really quickly, so you need to keep re-applying unlike Dior which will last all day.

LizzieMacQueen · 07/06/2021 21:01

You might like Hugo Boss Ma Vie.

Boss Ma Vie Pour Femme by Hugo Boss is a Floral fragrance for women. Boss Ma Vie* Pour Femme was launched in 2014. Top note is Cactus Flower; middle notes are Pink Freesia, Rose and Jasmine; base notes are Woody Notes and Cedar.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 08/06/2021 13:27

I like light perfumes and can recommend
YSL Libre
Boss Jour de femme
CKIN2U( sentimental reasons!)

MissBattleaxe · 08/06/2021 15:36

Perfume blogger here. I second the Perfume Society Discovery Box suggestion. The Launches We Love one is brilliant- 13 samples.

Judging by your existing taste I think you might like Flowerbomb, Jimmy Choo Blossom, Rihanna Reb'l Fleur, Avon Eve Embrace, Cacharel Amor. Looks like you enjoy florals with a patchouli or vanilla base or a bit of oomph as I call it.

If you want something lighter, I wrote this piece recently. It's called Airy Fairy Florals.

@randomkey123 Lovely lasts ages on me. The house was Coty so they're pretty good!
