Marionette lines - Botox

Hi, first time ever posting in this area.
I am 57 and have smoked since I was 12.
As a result of this, I think, I have lines from my lips to chin and it makes me look miserable even though I am not.
A colleague suggested Botox, she is older than me and smokes, but has a softer looking face.
Would it work?

Nobody?

I think the choice is fillers or a facelift Shock

Mydogisagentleman · 09/06/2021 08:13

Thanks for the reply.
I think I will continue to look miserable!
I’m a bit of a chicken when it comes to injections and surgery.

I had a go with fillers. They put them in your cheek. It lifts the cheeks reducing the marionette. Didn't find it worth the money to be honest. That's why I know that the next option is a full face lift 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

GiveTheGirlAGun · 10/06/2021 19:16

Yes, I have them. The difference is amazing. I have different levels of 'droop' on each side so my lady puts different amounts in. They last about 6-9 months on me. You can only try it.

I have nasolabial folds and tear troughs done too. 38 year old smoker since about 12 too.

GiveTheGirlAGun · 10/06/2021 19:16

Oh and they numb you up so you feel a sharp scratch and a bit weird while they put it in.

Mydogisagentleman · 11/06/2021 15:57

Well, my DH is going to Portugal on Wednesday, I can’t go due to the isolation after.
I might see about it when he’s away and see if he notices a difference.
Unlikely to be honest, I had shoulder length hair cut very short and he commented that I looked a bit different a couple of days later!

@GiveTheGirlAGun - are you talking about fillers rather than Botox? I've been told that Botox is only for the top part of your face (from eyes up) and fillers in the rest.

GiveTheGirlAGun · 11/06/2021 16:32

@SunnySideDownBriefly Yes. Filler. I've not got botox there, and Juvederm in tear troughs. I think the word botox is used in conjunction.

I recently had a consultation for fillers for my marionette lines and the doc said they would change my face to much
I am adding a picture as I didn’t think they were that bad !

@Mckmck123, I can hardly see any lines.

I had botox around the mouth for this and ended up with a smile that only lifted one corner of my mouth for 6 months so would not have it in that area again. I think filler is best for marionette lines with pdo threads and cheek filler best to lift the nose to mouth folds.

Unless it's your trusted doctor, I'd get a second opinion. Mine were much worse and filler did the job nicely. Threads are far more likely to change your face imo than filling out tiny dents like yours. Coincidentally threads are much more expensive than filler...

I have mine done about every 9 months, I had them re done 4 weeks ago , going back Tuesday to have them evened up I'm 50, they weren't super deep to begin with but it's definitely took years off. I'd recommend it.

Wow, you look incredible. Can I ask if you have any other filler, and if so where? You don't look like you do, but you look a lot more youthful than me! Maybe you're lucky though!
YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 21/08/2021 17:37

@LadyJJ you have lip fillers too?

Spaceprincess · 21/08/2021 18:02

Aw ty x
@YellowandGreenToBeSeen @5128gap yeh I have 1ml lips. My natural lips are thin tho and im knocking on.
They smooth out my vertical lip lines and prop up the middle of my face quite a lot.
I don't have any other fillers, I have had botox for 11s and horizontal forehead lines in the past but not for over a year now.
Also recommend retinol and factor 50

Mckmck123 · 21/08/2021 18:13

5128gap. Yes I was thinking of going for a second opinion but he put me right off 😂

Mckmck123 · 21/08/2021 18:14

Lady JJ
Yes you look great. I’m off for a 2nd opinion

PandoraP · 21/08/2021 18:44

@LadyJJ, you look amasing. If I was guaranteed the same result I would go for it, but too scared something will go wrong.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 21/08/2021 20:13

@LadyJJ thanks for replying. I absolutely get that to each their own but I’d hate the idea of someone spotting my ‘work’. If I could find a practitioner who could guarantee a ‘no work here’ look, I’d have it in spades.

Trouble is, I always spot it so assume others would also.

LadyJJ · 21/08/2021 20:24

@YellowandGreenToBeSeen yeh I have no problems with looking done to a point, in the same way as I have unnatural hair colours.
Like you said each to their own. Also it wears off but I like my lips best when they are new ha.
@Mckmck123 yeh it won't hurt to ask will it.
@PandoraP I'm a fairly gung ho individual about my appearance with non permanent things...that's not to say I've had to 'style out" the odd mishap over the years Grin

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 21/08/2021 21:08

@LadyJJ thanks for replying. You look like someone who’s had good, subtle but ‘there’ work. All power to you. Super attractive.

Feather12 · 21/08/2021 22:25

@LadyJJ do the lip fillers keep, your mouth turned up? Mine have just started to turn down and I wondered if lip fillers helped to lift them. Or is that the filler on the marionette lines that is lifting your mouth? It all looks very natural, which is what I want.
