Does anyone know about vintage powder compacts?

I've seen some pretty Stratton ones on eBay. Does anyone know if they're compatible with EL DW? Are all powders the same size?

I don't know, but would be interested to know, as I have a lovely vintage stratton!

Maybe try asking Lisa Eldridge on Twitter? She collects vintage makeup.

I couldn't get the DW out of its plastic case! It's rock solid and started cracking. So I've set the Stratton up for loose powder. The sifter holds it tightly in place; I don't think it will spill.
I feel very glam!
@SpongeBobJudgeyPants, get yours out and start using it!

I think you used to be able to use max factor creme puff for this but then they started pissing about with stronger glue. Not sure if the backlash caused a u-turn? You could try it?

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 11/06/2021 19:33

Yes, mine has the sifter. I really ought to start using it, instead of getting it out the drawer every now and then, and worshipping it Grin Which loose powder are you going for?

The Fedora Lounge forum www.thefedoralounge.com is the absolute go-to place for vintage beauty products. What they do not know about compacts, lipsticks etc is not worth knowing....

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 11/06/2021 20:03

Ooh, interesting MrsR. Thanks for the link.

You won't - it's like Hotel California on there, it's addictive!

NotMeNoNo · 11/06/2021 20:06

I collect Stratton, well I have a few. I pick the ones designed for compact pressed powder rather than convertible, as they are slimmer.
Max factor Creme Puff is a perfect fit.

It was the terrible packaging of Creme puff that got me started. There’s just a dot of glue under the metal tray of powder, it’s quite easy to remove.

Whats EL DW.

FreshFaceTime · 11/06/2021 20:22

It was the comments here that made me wonder what they'd done to the glue...

EL DW = Estee Lauder double wear

WhyDoIFeelAwful · 11/06/2021 20:35

Yes Double Wear. I expected it to be held onto the plastic case with a splodge of tacky glue, but it was hard as rock. Heating it up might have worked. Maybe I'll try and buy another pretty Stratton!
I just threw in whichever loose powder I had on the go. It might be Clinique - not really sure. Any of them should work ok. You could teaspoon it in, if you don't want to spill it over your jeans like I did. Grin

To be fair I haven't bought one since before lockdown!
