Cool brown box dye

Plump82 · 06/06/2021 11:33

Could anyone recommend one? I always end up with black hair when i dye my hair. But i just want a cool, almost mousey brown dye. Very unexciting but feel it suits my colouring best!

When I used to box dye I always found going for one that said light brown best otherwise I’d end up with black hair too!

jannyapple · 06/06/2021 11:37

That would depend on so many things
I'm no expert but I know that these box dyes won't lighten your hair so if your natural colour is darker it's not going to work
If natural is lighter then I'd go for semi permanent... or see if a local hair salon or college would have a student looking for models .. they'll all be under supervision of a senior so don't think you can go wrong ?

Plump82 · 06/06/2021 11:42

My hair is much lighter than what i want it to be. Reason I want to do it myself is i hate going to hairdressers. Ill force myself to get it cut there but id rather just do the dye myself.
Can i ask why it would be best going for a semi permanent. My hair doesn't hold colour very well which is another reason id rather do it myself.

Just because if it wasn't right it will wash out ... there are so many now if you go to the shops you'll be overwhelmed
Nice and Easy light brown was what I always used in the past
Let us know how you get on @Plump82

Choose a light ash brown

jannyapple · 06/06/2021 11:49

I agree @Ridingthegravytrain I always chose ash as I hate warmth of gold tones

SerafinaPekkala · 06/06/2021 11:50

I also like a cool, mousy brown and have found that 'dark ash blonde' tends to be the best one to go for. If go for anything darker - even 'light brown' it ends up too dark.

Oh you're right, there's tonnes! When I last dyed my hair myself i was happy for it to end up black! 15 years later, not so much! Ill have a look at light brown and ash brown.

Olia golden brown

LagneyandCasey · 06/06/2021 15:26

I agree with dark ash blondes. They turn out light brown on me. Anything 'brown' makes my hair too dark.

Plump82 · 06/06/2021 15:51

So is ash blonde not too warm. That's good to know. I don't think id even considering going with something blonde.

Plump I'm definitely not blonde (I'd say mid brown) and I end up mousy brown using medium or dark ash blonde (or 'nude' blonde)

In my cupboard are:
Shwartzkopf Palette 7.3 - medium marble blonde
Palette 7-1 medium ash blonde
Palette 7-0 medium blonde
Garnier colour naturals 7N - Nude Dark Blonde
Garnier Nutrisse 6N - Nude light brown (this may be a bi
t dark though)

Josh Wood box dye and the colour shots are really good.
