Birkenstock Arizona. Am I the only one with this problem?

I have a pair of classic Arizona’s. I’ve had them a couple of summers so they’re all broken in, no problems there but I have an embarrassing issue with them. They make a suctioning fart noise when I walk. It seems to be the arch of my foot and the inner sole suctioning. I love the understated look of them but the noise is ridiculous.

I don’t have weird foot anatomy, as far as I know (not particularly high or low arches). I measured my feet according to Birkenstock’s size advice when I bought them, so I’m sure they are the right size and width. I’ve tried adjusting the buckles on the top but it makes no difference. Am I the only one this happens to?! If not, have you found a solution beyond wearing them with socks?

Mine do this - they’re so comfy I just put up with it and occasionally loudly exclaim my shoes are noisy within earshot of strangers

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 05/06/2021 16:03

I find myself doing the same Blush

“It’s the shoes!”

At least I’m not alone. Strikes me as fairly major fault for such an iconic, well-loved design though.

I came here purely to see if it’s the same problem I have with mine- and it is!! Hurrah, I’m not alone.

I have no answers though I’m afraid 😂

Haha oh no! That's unfortunate. I haven't noticed this with mine, but I'm sure people know it's the shoes. And just think, if you actually let off you might get away with it, "it's the shoes you see"!

dudsville · 05/06/2021 17:52

All of my sandlas do this in the heat, but not if my foot is cool. I don't even apologise anymore, but I'm of an age where leaving people to wonder i I've farted or not is something I'm comfortable with.

Miseryisabutterfly · 05/06/2021 19:07

I’ve had this this week. I thought it was just me 😅

This makes me laugh so much!

DD4 sold her Birkenstocks online after a week of farting around school a few years ago. (No uniform).

WinstonsWeirdVole · 05/06/2021 20:19

Are your feet quite narrow, OP? Mine are and I had this problem with the standard width fitting, but ordered some narrow fit ones and they’ve been fine.

Whatalottachocca · 05/06/2021 20:19

All my sandals and “summer” shoes do this too. I think it’s just sweaty feet. 🤣

Iggi999 · 05/06/2021 20:21

Mine don't do that, though it might be a hotness thing and my feet are usually pretty cold.

colouringindoors · 05/06/2021 20:23

No you're not the only one! Mine do exactly the same (though only one foot). God knows how to stop it!!!

LaCerbiatta · 05/06/2021 20:40

A bit of talcum powder may help?

Handsnotwands · 05/06/2021 20:41

I have clog ones that do this occasionally. I quite like the feeling of it, like it feels nice on my foot

I don’t think they’re particularly narrow, no.

I do get hot feet but I can’t say as I’ve noticed it being a particularly sweaty thing and it doesn’t seem to happen in other sandally-flip-flop things I own.

@mathanxiety, Blush your poor DD4

Me too ! Although mine are cheap rip offs .. but yip .. step flap fart step flap fart ... Smile

Plump82 · 06/06/2021 11:44

Yep i get this as well. Its like a little bubble of air appears then pops. Definitely don't think it's to do with sweaty feet and more just the design /shape of the shoe.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 06/06/2021 11:53

Why the F are they so damn popular then?!
