Concealing varicose veins

Goodiewhemper · 05/06/2021 06:08

I have had varicose veins for years and have had a few surgeries. I still have a few on my calves and shins that are quite unsightly especially on my white legs. I want to wear a few dresses and skirts over the coming months with bare legs. Is there a product out there can help conceal the veins and post surgery bruising? All advice gratefully received and appreciated 🙏

Following as I'd like to know too!

Bumping as I’d also like to know!

A tan of some description really really helps I find.

Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs is good. It's a wash off product rather and is like makeup for legs.

Goodiewhemper · 07/06/2021 18:12

Thank you Anjelika. Does it conceal or is it just when the legs are less white the veins are less obvious? I have seen that product so will definitely give it a go.

Sorry only just seen the question! It definitely conceals as it's more akin to foundation for legs than fake tan.

Don't underestimate the power of a tan though. My legs have got a tan at the moment from a mix of the sunshine and fake tan and I think they look 100 times better.

Fake tan or Mac Face and Body foundation

PippaRose · 16/06/2021 20:21

I agree re Sally Hansen product, it’s like let make up

jennyfromtheblock22 · 16/06/2021 21:00

Fake tan then Sally Hansen. The SH stuff is amazing! Goes on really thick but blurs all the imperfections. I don't scrub it off in the shower, just let the warm water run over it and it lasts for a few days.

Goodiewhemper · 22/06/2021 22:03

Thank you all. I got SH and it definitely helps.

Also Vita Liberata body blur. You can buy from QVC and try it and still return if you don't like it.

Wizzbangfizz · 22/06/2021 22:19

Following with interest as I've the same problem but find bit vita and SH transferring onto clothes and it is driving me mad!

Miseryisabutterfly · 22/06/2021 22:46

This is fab stuff www.vichy.co.uk/en_GB/dermablend-3d-correction-fluid-foundation/VICUK-008.html

Miseryisabutterfly · 22/06/2021 22:47

Sally Hansen makes me look like an Oompa Loompa! Obviously my skin tone isn’t right for it.

parsnipsnotsprouts · 22/06/2021 22:55

It’s quite hard to disguise varicose veins if they’re lumpy but leg makeup can help the colour at least. Sally Hansen is horrible stuff in my opinion. Very orangey and powdery texture that looks like you’re wearing thick tights. Mac face and body is very good. I have two shades. A light and a dark one and I mix depending on how tan or not I am. It’s lovely stuff

I'm a huge fan of micro fish nets. They shouldn't work but they do. Total blooming miracle. Look like bare legs but just so much better. I have awful veins including a huge bulger on calf. Also spider veins and just general patchiness and discolouration that comes with veins. Hides it all and seems to invisibly sculpt legs so they look toned.

I have Falke but see Wolford do ones with open toe so you can wear sandals. Pricey - approx £25 per pair but has been a game changer for me.

Also feel light and not like normal tights. Still tights, obvs, but I would wear them even if quite hot.

Prior to micronets, I found This Works leg stuff (maybe called Perfect Legs?) to be the most natural tan stuff. A kind of tint that also seems to even out skin. But really, not a patch on the tights!

Intrigued by these especially with skirts or dresses. I have so many gorgeous pieces that I just don't wear because of my legs. I have looked on the sites you mentioned but cannot find micro fishnets. Would you mind posting a link of what you wear?

These veins are a nightmare and so unsightly. Thank you all for the other suggestions. A large department store close to me has the Mac foundation and the Vichy Dermablend instore so I will pop in today to see if I can pick up a sample or two. I have been wearing only cropped pants and leggings so far this summer. The SH has worked in that small exposed area but I had not felt confident to go full leg as I couldn't seem to get even coverage. I guess a lot depends on extent of markings and skin tone etc. I am very grateful for all the suggestions and like most things it will probably take a bit of trial and error to find what works and suits best.

I’m so glad you asked this @Goodiewhemper because this morning I was literally standing in front of my mirror debating whether or not to wear this beautiful short summer dress I have. It’s so nice, I have lost a ton of weight and I have nice legs... but loads of horrid spider veins. I had a varicose vein surgically removed a couple of years ago but I still feel plagued by veins...

I do think fake tan helps. Then I put some fake bake wash off leg tan on as well. Definitely think it takes a bit of practice to get right. I want to invest in some vitanliberata as I have heard good things. I personally found sali hansen quite orangey, matching the colour can be the trickiest thing I think.

Naggety · 26/06/2021 07:31

Following as have had two ops on varicose veins and have the same problem. I have been told that you can have the smaller capillaries (?) injected during the winter and by the summer they have disappeared. I would have tried it this winter but - lockdown! Has anyone tried that?

Imtoooldforallthis · 26/06/2021 12:55

If it helps the vita Liberata body blur is on sale on QVC, You can try and return if you don't like it. There is a knack to using it. I use a fake tan mit to apply then leave for 10-15 mins then use a dry flannel to lightly go over it to take off any excess. It still comes off on bedding though.

imstilljenny2 · 26/06/2021 20:43

@Naggety I've had my thread veins injected. Didn't work 😢

Naggety · 26/06/2021 20:55
