Can anyone recommend a brand for DS? He needs jeans & shorts, but everything we’ve tried so far is much too big on the waist & bum. Adjustable waists don’t really work - all that gathered material doesn’t look good. We got a great fit with John Lewis own brand last year, but this year they are a completely different cut & way too big. Where do you buy clothes for your slim children?

M&S slim fit & slim or skinny leg if it's school trousers your looking for. Other than that Next is my go too.

Polarnopyret do great slim fit jeans but you’ve got a year left sizing wise. H and m do good shorts for skinny’s as well.

ZARA kids

Straussful · 03/06/2021 08:33

I find H&M best. M&S do slim fitting clothes which are okay too

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 03/06/2021 08:36

My son is like this. He's 10. Super slim. Zara is where I have to shop for him. Most of their clothes are quite slim fitting.

Also Vertbaudet do their trousers in 3 hip fits, one being slim. Their shorts are quite slim fitting as well

Brilliant suggestions, thank you everyone! I am going to order some bits to try.

Yes vertbaudet and laredoute are good.

Mine is just coming out of kids clothes so it’s making it really difficult. I’ve got him some women’s stuff, but obviously that’s not ideal!!
Mens comes in waist sizes but is so expensive when they will wear it for 6 months and then it won’t fit.

sourcherie · 03/06/2021 10:43

Zara, though I always had to size down, although my kids are average height.

Xztop · 03/06/2021 17:39

H&M was always good for my super skinny child!

ButchersPleasure · 03/06/2021 17:45

Next do nice slim fit jeans and trousers. I get my tall 13 year old 26inch waist from the men's section.

CanOfLilt · 03/06/2021 18:08

This is the bane of my life. Skinny teenage boys seem to be the norm - I don't understand why there's not more stuff for them in the shops!

Anyway, OP, I second the recommendations above and also suggest Levi's 510s for jeans, which are the best fit I've ever bought my son.

Thesearmsofmine · 03/06/2021 18:12

You could be me! It drives me mad when people suggest adjustable waists as even with those they always huge! Don’t order the M&S jeans they are huge on the waist(I made this error recently).
I’ve ordered from bertabudet this week so hoping they will fit and if so I will buy a few more pairs. The only other place that works for DS is Sainsburys.

Lockdownbear · 03/06/2021 18:16

I know the ' but they adjust....' actually if it was that straightforward adult clothes would be the same.
The penny eventually dropped when I put it to my mum you could probably use the elastic or a belt to pull a ladies 10 into a 8, but no amount of elastic is going to pull a 12 into a 8 without looking silly / being uncomfortable.

RippleEffects · 03/06/2021 18:23

For casual we used gap kids for supper skinny stuff until too tall. As PP said as a teen we moved to next adult mens as they go down to a very slim waist.

thelegohooverer · 03/06/2021 18:25

Slight hijack but could anyone help me with the terminology. I’m looking for trousers to fit a skinny waist/bum but not tight fitting on the legs.
I think skinny jeans are form fitting, so is “slim fit” the right term or would I be better going a few sizes down and looking for “extra tall”?

EvilPea · 03/06/2021 19:54

Yes you want slim fit not skinny fit.
I nearly got caught out with the last next pair I bought (which were too big Hmm). Different colours / shades come up differently as well so make sure they try them all on before keeping / buying.

Apecks1eg · 03/06/2021 21:31

Thanks very much everyone.

I have also been caught out by the different descriptions - M&S do slim fit school trousers which are smaller on the waist & hip & come in different legs (skinny leg, slim leg, straight leg etc), but these are different to regular fit school trousers with skinny / slim legs. Unfortunately they only do the slim fit trousers in black & grey & from Sept DS will need charcoal trousers. I’ve tried a couple of pairs from different places but all too big so far
