And how long will it take?

It won't strip it back to the colour you were before but it does lighten it a bit, or at least it used to apparently the new formula isn't as effective as it used to be.

It kind of works in that any harsh/cheap shampoo will fade color but there are better ways. What type of color are you trying to fade?

@Frequency it's a really really dark brown. I'm going hair dressers in a couple of weeks to strip it and redo but she suggested using H&S to help lighten it before the appointment

Vosene also works to strip out heavy dark deposits of colour but just remember to really condition it afterwards.

A clarifying shampoo would probably work better, although personally, I'd just wait until the appointment.

Ask if they're using a colour reducer or a colour remover or a bleach bath. Unless you have bleached hair and are removing direct dye a colour remover will be unnecessarily harsh and lazy of the stylist. I mention it because you used the phrase "strip" which normally indicates a colour remover. Colour removers are fairly strong bleaches. They're overkill for removing oxidative colours. Colour reducers are the kindest to your hair but take a lot longer than colour removers.

I used the revolution beauty hair colour remover, two boxes as I have long hair. My hair was dyed red several times (notorious for its longevity) and it came out first try.

I wanted to fade my colour before my next appointment. I used a clay shampoo, and left it on as a "mask" for around an hour. It lightened it quite a lot.

Make sure you condition it after!

I didn't know H&S strips hair colour! I use the itchy scalp one - do they all do this?!

Head and shoulders works a little but vitamin C crushed up and mixed with shampoo and left in for an hour works better!! It does dry your hair but not too bad, a hair mask sorts that out - works wonders!!
