Keratosis pilaris aka chicken skin, has anyone found a cure yet

Just checking as I do periodically. Google has all the usual suggestions that I've tried with various results. I have a routine now that keeps mine in check and improved by about 80% of what it was (diet, salt scrub, neutrogena hydro boost lotion) and if I stick to this my skin feels smooth but still has the annoying red spots. I've been letting my skin see some sun lately which helps but nothing gets rid of the kp completely.

Has anyone found anything that gets rid of kp or at least reduces the red dots?

Child’s farm moisturiser. Works on psoriasis too.

Muckingaround · 02/06/2021 21:32

Using Korean Italy Towels in the shower have sorted mine

AnnaSW1 · 02/06/2021 21:32

Korean Italy towels cured mine on first use!!!

stevalnamechanger · 02/06/2021 21:34

Salicylic Cerave cream which also contains urea

SionnachRua · 02/06/2021 21:34

I might be completely imagining this but I find mine is much better in the summer when I wear short sleeves.

I keep hydrated and keep up a regular routine of exfoliating and moisturising. It got a lot better when I was mid-twenties anyway but the exfoliating/moisturising helps keep it toned down.

Cutting out dairy completely got rid of mine.

Another vote for those Korean cloths.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 03/06/2021 08:29

I had this growing up and I hated my skin. These exfoliating scrubby gloves completely got rid of the KP. I use them every time I shower almost. They're great too especially to exfoliate all over before applying a self tanner. You can actually see all the dead skin you've gotten rid of down by the shower drain. It's gross but so satisfying.

I've probably been using these for at least 20 years now. I live them. Had no idea what a Korean Italy Cloth was, but these look very similar but easier to use in my opinion plus you get one for each hand. They're super cheap as well

Sorry I should have said, I've been trying to get rid of kp for many years so have tried most of the usual things with little effect!

I have tried Ameliorate, KP Duty, Palmers, Flexitol, Nip&Fab glycolic pads, Eucerin, and many many other creams. I use exfoliating gloves and soap instead of shower gel, I am gluten, dairy and sugar free and eat low carb and I'm in peri menopause.

I have been tempted by the Korean cloths but I only have a shower so wouldn't be able to soak first, also I'm unsure which cloths are genuine as have seen people talk about fake ones.

I have spent a fortune over the years to try and rid myself of kp and have become cynical about products promising amazing results, they all seem to have rave reviews and I buy them and start using them hopefully only to be disappointed again.

I just wondered if there was anything new on the market that really works for everyone that I hadn't yet tried. Sad

@cosmopolitanplease I only ever shower. I hate baths, and the Korean towels worked perfectly. Give it a go, they are only a few pounds.

cosmopolitanplease · 03/06/2021 17:43

Thank you Anna, you have convinced me to try them! Do you know if they can be bought in a kind of mitt shape?

MsMeNz · 03/06/2021 17:55

Expensive but I started using my retinol face cream on arm to comapre to other arm and it worked well I'd say an 80 percent reduction. Otherwise only thing that worked for me was a low cal diet and sun exposure

AnnaSW1 · 03/06/2021 18:30

@cosmopolitanplease I have the padded ones which are in a mitt shape but they don't have a separate thumb part. I got them from amazon

Beauty Pie have just launched this! I’m tempted to try as my arms and legs are NOT summer ready!!

Can anyone help identify this rash on my 5 week old? ..feels quite rough and extends round her neck and a little on chest and shoulders. Thankfully, it doesn't seem to be bothering her.

@IslandMumToBe sorry I can't positively identify that (looks like a mild allergic reaction?) but it definitely doesn't look like kp. If you start your own thread in one of the baby forums here you will get more helpful replies Smile

Soap! Mine went away when I started washing with bar soap.

SukiPook · 28/04/2022 20:47

It can be essential fatty acid deficiency or vitamin A deficiency. Interested to see some say their retinol face cream worked, as that's vitamin A. I just had my omega 3:6 ratio tested with Thriva, as I'm really bad at consistently taking my fish oil. The ratio was 16:1... very poor (should be 2:1 max) . So i'm being religious about taking the fish oil and avoiding products containing sunflower oil. Only just started this, so yet to see the skin effects.
I'm also taking some vitamin A and will get some retinol cream (or crack open my vit A capsules and mix with some moisturiser) for the affected K.P. areas.

Keratosis was the bane of my life in my twenties.I couldn't stop squeezing my upper arms and the more I squeezed, the more new ones developed. I had to cover all the red marks with foundation when wearing a short sleeve top.

One day in my 30s I decided I couldn't stand it another day and ordered Ammonium Lactate Lotion 12% I was under the impression I'd have to keep applying the lotion to keep it at bay. I applied it every day for about 2 weeks, and they never, ever came back. I quite miss having those little white things to squeeze now.

It was this one:

www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WOS71I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hopefully it's available on Amazon UK. Just don't put it on before you go out/are socializing/getting intimate. It makes you smell of pee for real.

tiktokontheclock · 28/04/2022 21:07

Cera ve smoothing cream. The Korean cloths did nothing for me as I have mild eczema and you're basically taking skin off. Cera ve works within days!

ChaToilLeam · 28/04/2022 21:09

Nip and Fab Glycolic Body Fix is great for KP.

NancyJoan · 28/04/2022 21:10

Mine disappeared after my second pregnancy. Maybe try that.
