Am I searching for the Holy Grail? All I want is tops that don’t have weird cut outs, t shirts that are not see through and long enough to not ride up. Plus if the tops could be worn with a bra that would be nice too.
I just sent back a Reiss order because although it looked ok on the website, the cutting was weird and off shoulder on the top and I need to wear a bra so that’s no good for me.
Where do people go for just good quality simple clothing? I don’t mind spending a bit more £ but even the more expensive stuff is frilly or slogan filled.

I've decided that the classic white shirt/t-shirt is an urban myth. Look great online, but I might as well be topless for how transparent they are.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 01/06/2021 21:26

My partner is wearing a long sleeved white t shirt from Tescos that cost £3, the quality and thickness of the material is better that the t shirts I got in M&S...

KirstenBlest · 01/06/2021 21:34

M&S.

Uniqlo for basic TShirts .
I really like the ribbed ones .
Colours can be a bit Hmm though

niceupthedance · 01/06/2021 21:49

Cos

Jampot1 · 01/06/2021 21:56

I would have agreed about the non see through white t shirt being an urban myth until last week...... then I bought the Uniqlo U crew neck t shirt. It’s honestly brilliant. It’s a nice cut, nice material and not see through at all I couldn’t believe how good it was for £9.90.

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 01/06/2021 21:58

Cos and Kin. But I like "interesting" cuts.

Men’s T shirts from next are a nice fabric too, so why are ours see through shite?.

Even Bodens see through.

Ellisisland · 01/06/2021 22:00

Thanks all. Will check out Sunspel and Cos. Have bought stuff from Uniqlo in the past so will check their stuff out again as well.

I think you may be right @floofycroissant but I’d settle for any kind of top that wasn’t frilly or see through at this point!

@LivingDeadGirlUK I don’t have any Tesco’s near me that do clothing but I’ll take a look online. Thanks

Men's t-shirts can be a good bet too if you don't want something clingy or a very "shaped" cut. Generally much better quality cotton and a boxy, masculine fit is pretty in. I borrowed a plain Hugo Boss tee from DH once when I couldn't find mine in the morning, and I nearly didn't give it back. So a haunt of the men's rail at TK Maxx can also be well worth it.

HelenHywater · 01/06/2021 22:05

I think there are some good quality t shirts in & other stories here this year.

I have bought really good t shirts from Jigsaw in past years. look here

Feedingthebirds1 · 01/06/2021 22:13

I also don't do frilly, see through, bare shoulders, slogans, no bra...so I have a lot of men's t shirts. Much better quality, good length (no crop tops here either) and no frills or glitter, though some I have do have a very simple design feature. I can cope with that, makes a change from all white.

OxanaVorontsova · 01/06/2021 22:19

Arket for t shirts
Gap for vest tops

Londonmummy66 · 01/06/2021 22:26

Another vote for Uniqlo all my t shirts come from there and they are great - I buy slightly too big for loose and several sizes too small to go under something with a smooth line and both are great.

£65 for a basic t-shirt ???

DOINGOURBIT · 01/06/2021 22:30

I think the supermarkets have really upped their game recently. Got some lovely thick V neck T shirts in Morrisons. Tu at Sainsbury's are also good.

yoshiblue · 01/06/2021 22:45

Definitely Uniqlo for t shirts. Excellent quality and reasonably priced.

NannyAndJohn · 01/06/2021 22:54

If you wait for the Net A Porter sale (twice a year, one coming up with the next month or so) you can get 60%/70% off really good quality designer stuff which when the discount is added will come out cheaper than the likes of Reiss etc.

I've been shopping exclusively from the sale from the last decade or so and must have saved thousands upon thousands.

Nannyamc · 01/06/2021 23:01

Have become very fussy in the last year. T shirts lauren ralph lauren country attire. Trousers robell different lengths sizes and colour. Will get a second summer or even.a third from.them. Fed up with m and s
Quality gone now. A tad more expensive but will.save in long run. Always look fresh. Good sales when they.come up.

Geamhradh · 02/06/2021 07:11

M&S for the basic white t shirts.
They do about 800 different kinds which is confusing but some are pure cotton and are long enough not to ride up and have a proper short sleeve rather than a very short sleeve. Haven't bought any since 2019 but they were £12.99 then.
Gap ones are OK but no podium
Uniqlo which I ordered a couple of years ago on the back of threads here are weird- pure cotton, supima but strange sheen to them and shape that made me look like I was in a man's vest. They may have others, but those were dreadful- great quality cotton but I feared people would look at me thinking I'd put my grandad's underwear on.
H&M aren't bad if you size up and buy their more expensive ones. I buy their linen t-shirts but it's not quality linen and they last a summer and that's all.

My trousers are M&S, Boden, Hobbs, Jigsaw.

Stripes are Seasalt or Joules, avoid Boden because tops are Primark quality. (trousers are the best though)

Dresses- Jigsaw, Hobbs. Boden at a push but only at 70% because like the tops it's all viscose/jersey and not the best quality.
Sunspel www.sunspel.com/uk/womens/womens-tshirts.html
I was going to say Sunspel too @Pinkcadillac. I have several tees from there and they are great quality. They often have offers on - e.g they recently had 30% off some of their stock. The sweatshirts are great too.

Ellisisland · 02/06/2021 12:10

Thanks all. Some great links. Will put in some orders and report back!
