Comfy sandals that don't rub

I mean I guess nobody can tell me if a particular sandal will rub my own individual feet...but I have this issue so often. I really struggle to find comfy ones that don't end up rubbing my feet in various places after an hour or so leading to blisters and whatnot. Often they feel fine in the shop and i only notice the issue after I've worn them for awhile. Does this happen to everyone?! Are there any good styles that make this less likely? I do have wide feet which is part of the issue I think. Although I have done the last two summers in a particular pair of sandals and yesterday it sudden started rubbing the top of one of my big toes and gave me a blister. I am pregnant so I'm assuming it's related to my feet being swollen with that, I dunno. I just want some comfy sandals!

Agree with Tevas, really comfy esp the sporty styles.

I recently bought some leather slides from Fitflop - rubbed my feet raw!

Inspired by this thread, I have trawled shoe sites for nice sandals that don't look like orthopaedic shoes and won't shred my feet. I have purchased some Esska India sandals in the sale. So far so good. Need to go for a proper walk to test them but I have high hopes. Expensive but got 10% off sale price with first order discount code.

blitzen · 08/06/2021 10:52

Oh, and they don't do half sizes but I sized up and they're perfect

If you work for the NHS you can get 25% off flip flops the the NHS discount site

So sad. I bought the northernangel sandals and they arrived today. They don't stay on my feet and I'm so pronated my feet are just falling of the inside edge. Nice and squishy but only for people with more normal feet. I had such hopes for them!

Magpiecomplex · 08/06/2021 19:56

@cungryhow how wide do those Heavenly Feet ones come up?

LizTaylorsFabulousTurban · 08/06/2021 19:59

I will never not recommend Saltwater sandals. I can't remember how long I have had the pair I am currently wearing but they are like new (and I wear these and my other pair all summer). I have walked miles and miles in them, never had a Saltwater blister. I wish they also made shoes, I would never buy anything else.

Hesma · 08/06/2021 20:26

@SecondhandTable competed to a blister stick which you rub on your feet and it prevents shoes rubbing. Give it a go, it’s a game changer 😀

I found my Saltwater sandals hurt the soles of my feet last year, but I was in year 5, so probably wearing out. They have just brought out the adult sun san with a thicker soft sole which I got a few weeks ago and so far so good for me on the comfort front !www.salt-watersandals.com/gb-en/women/sun-san.html?utm_medium=email&utm_source=mailchimp&utm_campaign=20-05-21+style+session:+soft+sole+for+adults++eur+uk+en+internal&utm_content=top+image+swimmer+tan&mc_cid=7974b81433&mc_eid=7b6dd77fbf

Teva Tirras are good, and they come in various colours. Clarks are good too.

shoeshoebadoo · 08/06/2021 22:39

Calla shoes are for bunions but also would be good for wide feet - might be worth a look

Crowsaregreat · 08/06/2021 22:49

I put vaseline on my feet when breaking in new Birkenstocks! Works a treat.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 08/06/2021 23:49

I love my Merrell ones so much I bought a second pair the same for when they die. Not sure the same style is still available (and also they're leather) but they are similar to these - I'm sure they would have some other good ones too. I've also had some good Teva ones in the past.

@Minezatea I also have narrow feet and have had plantar fasciitis too (though it's gone at the moment), and my Merrell ones are good for that. They could still do up a few millimetres tighter ideally but are much better than lots of others. Also the soles are really comfy - I now have orthotics which I put into all my other footwear, but they don't really work as well with sandals and without socks (they can move around too much, and also I feel like I will pinch my feet between the ends of them and the sole) but when I'm in my Merrells I really don't miss them and feel comfy even for a long day on my feet.

Have a look at the ‘Pavers’ website - I’ve bought quite a few pairs of really comfy sandals from them and they have a good range of styles and of wider fittings too. You can order direct from the website or choose the style and see if you have a local shop.

pam290358 · 09/06/2021 10:33

Also meant to say Reiker sandals are really comfy too.

Anoisagusaris · 09/06/2021 10:36

Birkenstocks destroyed my feet - rubbed so much I bled

Fit flops are so comfy

KarenW · 09/06/2021 13:51

another vote for Reiker here, I have had some lovely sparkly blue sandals for 5 years, they are so soft underfoot, no rubbing, and look great!

Thank you, tip very much appreciated! Sadly I just looked at their site and all the sandals sit on your big toe. I also have hallux rigidus which is why I have the big toe issue. I basically have a massive lump on top of my big toe which hurts like hell if anything touches it. The search continues...

Dizzybet74 · 09/06/2021 19:49

Another vote for saltwater sandals

osbertthesyrianhamster · 09/06/2021 19:51

Tevas and Keens. I don't have wide feet, though.

FindingMeno · 09/06/2021 20:12

Birkenstock style, but cheapo version eva footbeds with a double strap across are the most comfortable, as were my trusty merrell walking sandals.

MsRinky · 09/06/2021 21:07

Oh, I saw those new Saltwaters with the thicker sole, and was so tempted, but I already have four pairs. I walked 7 miles in the non-leather New Look flatforms that @SingingWaffleDoggy recommended, so thank you for that. I also swear by Art Copenhagen sandals and Yokono, and as you can possibly tell, I have a LOT of comfortable sandals...
