Two dozen dresses and nothing to wear

Since I got the dog, two years ago, I have lived in sensible trousers and walking boots.

I was thinking I was in a style rut and needed to go shopping. Checked the wardrobe first. I own a lot of dresses, all shapes, all lengths, all price ranges. If I checked the box in the attic, there would be even more.

How the heck do I get back into dresses?
What is in fashion?
What dresses look fine with walking boots? (this bit may or may not be light hearted)
Do I just wear one a day for the next three and a half weeks?
I need inspiration and courage to wear what I have, and to be held a bit accountable.
Help, I used to be able to do this.

I know I should start by shaving my legs Blush

Dresses with boots are very much in fashion at the moment. (Although you may need to make concessions to the next 'hottest Summer ever'.)

I currently have one Summer dress, so am waiting for An Occasion. If I had two dozen, yes - I'd try one every day and weed out those that didn't seem quite right for now.

Why and to whom do you need to be accountable? They're clothes! This is an area of freedom. And experiment. And joy. Get rid of anyone who makes you feel otherwise.

I agree with the PP. And you can really wear most footwear with dresses these days.

Definitely wear the dresses unless it's one that isn't washable. I wear dresses with boots all the time.

I need to be accountable to me, it was my money that bought them and at the time I believed I loved them and would wear them. Most I have worn quite a bit.

I think I am being unfair on the dog, past the first couple of months she has not been jumpy. The last 14 months everything I have worn has been real easy wash and go. The iron has not met my clothes.

I did the legs, added razors and shaving foam to the shopping list. I look like a badly plucked chicken Sad So shorter dress and skinnies today. Top button kept popping but a few stitches later is just fine.

I'm not an excessive shopper. I buy a dress a two a year and only tend to chuck them when they wear out. I'm mid fifties now, that habit has added up to quite a lot of stuff.

What's the significance of the next three and a half weeks?

I should perhaps revise my advice above. Actually, if I had two dozen dresses I'd set aside two separate hours (where I wouldn't be interrupted) and try them all on in front of a decent, well lit full length mirror.

If they were my dresses anything bought prior to Spring 2020 would now be a size too small. Hmm So I'd have to assess whether I could realistically expect to be able to wear any of those this year. The best of the too small set I'd keep, the rest I'd give away.

If that process left anything I could still get into (Hmm again) I'd probably try the rest with all possible footwear, jumpers, jackets, accessories - and surprise myself with the brilliant outfits I could now put together.

Then I'd ensure my dog-walking route took me past all the coolest places in town, where I could hang out looking spectacular.

One dress a day. Just my way of doing things.
Luckily I have stayed a similar size for decades. Menopause only stuck a couple of inches on my waist and a lot of cotton wool in my brain.

I'll have to interrogate the DC to see if there are any cool places in our wee town Grin

I think one dress a day is fine, and glad to read you shop to live and not the other way around.

Three and a half weeks almost takes you to the start of Wimbledon tennis, when you know it will rain!!
