Shampoo & conditioner bars

I'd like to try solid shampoo & conditioner; can anyone recommend a brand please?
I want anti-dandruff shampoo & purple conditioner. Preferably from the same website. What about ethique? Any good?

I have tried lots of different shampoo bars and find them all much of a muchness, they're all fine for my fine, short hair. I didn't get in with conditioner bars, so usually get liquid refillable one from the local economy shop.

Not much help, but I would say just give something a go. Ethical supermarket is quite a good place to get stuff, also loads of small online retailers. The Lush ones are OK but no better than anything else I've tried.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 31/05/2021 13:55

I use ethique.

I can't fault them in general, although I feel they would be better for natural blondes rather than my bleach blonde, it doesn't dive as much condition and moisture as I'd like really. But on untreated hair I'd imagine it's perfect

Gruum shampoo bars are great. Not sure if they do anti dandruff, though you might not need it with a good moisturising shampoo bar? I haven’t tried their conditioners though.

MamaPriory · 31/05/2021 13:57

I like ethique too

theneverendinglaundry · 31/05/2021 14:21

I've tried Ethique and Lush and liked them both. Ethique is sometimes in the penny sale at Holland and Barratt which is an absolute bargain!

Agree with pp on Gruum shampoo bars. I’ve just started using a Gruum conditioner bar too, can’t decide on it. Hair feels ok but seems strange as doesn’t lather when using conditioner bar. Although the website says their conditioner bars don’t lather so think it works, I just need to get use to it.
Had tried Lush shampoo bar previously but didn’t think it worked too well.

My last ones were Gruum too - liked the shampoo bar. The conditioned went soggy quite quickly, but have put it in a soap bag, so it seems to be holding. Leaves a lovely softness on the hair. By the way, Gruum have a sale on - had an email and the shampoo bar is £5 instead of £8 until tonight

I’m using faith in nature shampoo and don’t need a conditioner at all-I’m really pleased with it. The only weird thing is I’m currently using the last scrap of a bar and it didn’t work AT ALL, as though the active ingredient has run out and just a waxy base is left, engreasifying my hair. . Got a new bar today so hopefully it’ll be back to normal.

winniesanderson · 31/05/2021 17:03

Soho soap company are brilliant. I've used a few shampoo bars and a conditioner bar and really rate them compared to other brands I've tried. No build up and greasy lank feeling after. I'd been really put off by others I've used but these are great.

winniesanderson · 31/05/2021 17:04

Sorry I didn't read properly. They do anti dandruff formulations but I'm not sure about purple conditioner.

lazylinguist · 31/05/2021 17:15

I've used lots of different shampoo bars and all have been fine. My favourite are Bain&Savon. I've also tried lots of conditioner bars and they just don't work imo. Because conditioner isn't lathery, it's almost impossible to get the stuff onto your hair!

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 31/05/2021 17:28

Ethique has been my favourite so far and they do small tester bars too

WhyDoIFeelAwful · 31/05/2021 17:38

I'm also quite excited to have an excuse to buy those soap suction pads which were all the rage in the 80s!

I have the ethique ginger one and I was pleasantly surprised. It lathers well and my hair seems ok. I haven't tried the conditioner.

DuchessSilver · 31/05/2021 18:43

I like ethique and lush shampoo bars. Couldn't get on with the lush conditioner bars but the ethique wonderbar is great.

@WhyDoIFeelAwful thanks so much for taking a look 😊

OrangeBlossom28 · 01/06/2021 11:44

I'm using one by Grüum and really like it, I think mine is the lemon and almond oil one. I'm loathed to try conditioner bars though as they don't seem to be able to get them right at all.

bigTillyMint · 01/06/2021 13:51

@OrangeBlossom28, that’s the one I use - it smells divine, doesn’t it? And lasts for ages!

OrangeBlossom28 · 01/06/2021 14:50

@bigTillyMint yes! It's lovely and I will buy again. I'm alternating it with Redken Extreme shampoo to help with post Covid hair.

CoronaCurls · 01/06/2021 15:31

"Plastic Free, Ethical & Sustainable Shopping from &Keep" andkeep.com has a really good range of shampoo and conditioner bars.

dgirluk · 02/06/2021 09:04

I tried Gruum the other day - shampoo & conditioner. My hair is lovely and soft (I usually use Bumble & Bumble). Conditioner does feel a bit weird putting it on because it doesn't lather, you just have to trust that it's going on. Then when I comb it through before rinsing it out, you can't easily see it. But it must've been working or my hair would be a frizzy mess !

@JumpLeadsForTwo what's a soap bag? Do you use it in the bag or is it just for storage? I'm going away soon and wondering how to transport them without them going soggy.

JumpLeadsForTwo · 02/06/2021 13:07

@dgirluk I use one if these - not great for transporting but useful to hang in the shower and dry out. Also great for body bars as the bag exfoliates. For transport I use a systema pot as it is the perfect size and doesn't leak
