I've forgotten where to shop!

Even before the lockdowns I've mostly been at home looking after the kids. I've got into a rut of buying most of my clothes from Sainsbury's Tu, George at Asda, H&M etc as that's where I buy most of my kids' clothes and it's convenient. Plus, these shops are not too bad when it comes to casual T-shirts and jeans type outfits.

I want to get some more tops (more 'dressy' than T-shirts, but not over-the-top) to go with jeans for going to the pub, restaurants etc over the summer.

I've been through my usual retailers, but I'm lacking inspiration. It occurred to me that I've forgotten what shops are out there. And some might not be on my radar at all if they are online only.

I want natural materials (I've seen several tops I like the look of, only to find they are 100% polyester).

I need sleeves - short sleeved is fine, but not sleeveless.

I like blues and greens, but also looking at yellows. I had a thing for polka dot tops for a few years, and breton tops before that. Want to move away from spots and stripes!

Budget - up to about £25 per item. I want to buy several tops to update my summer wardrobe, so I can't afford much more than that.

I'm 5'9". Size 14. Age - mid 40s.

Mango is great!

H&M is nice. I got a few really nice cotton tops from them recently. Primark too if you can get inside one - they do have some cotton and viscose pieces that are lovely. Stay away from ‘better’ brands because you’ll be stuck with polyestor.

Ooh, I'd forgotten about Mango, @Dogoodfeelgood

Thanks @Ozanj. It's strange how higher-end brands prefer polyester.

I'm in the same position. I've just been looking at the Asos site for some ideas as to what's around and what might work for me. I like surf brands like O'neill at the moment and the usual suspects like Fat Face and White Stuff have nice pieces in natural fabrics.

SkepticalCat · 30/05/2021 14:37

Thanks @ADialgaAteMyDog. I've also had a look at ASOS, but got overwhelmed with the 1000s of results that came back, and I don't think you can filter by material. I'll take a look at the other places you've recommended.

I've just been looking at Mango and it does have some really nice things. I have favourited several items to come back to.

Just had a look at Mango & H&M to order online. How does the sizing come up please? I am size short, size 12 generally with a bit of a tummy. I’m guessing a Medium? but wasn’t sure maybe a small in the looser more floaty tops?

Ozanj · 30/05/2021 15:56

H&M can vary. Better to go by the size guide in the app - you plug in your sizes at other brands and then they will assess your size based on that. It’s rarely wrong for me.

Dogoodfeelgood · 30/05/2021 18:20

I would say medium. I am size 8 and size small and if fitted it’s quite snug on me. If floaty medium should be okay.

If you check fabrics their cotton and linen pieces are lovely.
