Hairdresser got the brief wrong

I am peeved. I haven't had my hair done since October 2020 and was really looking forward to a cut and colour. I couldn't get an appointment with my usual stylist, but they recommend another stylist at a different salon. I assumed all would be fine. It was not! Minor issues- managed to get dye all over my face and not try to wipe off until it was too late. Major issues - my hair is meant to be coloured a mid auburn (pics attached of my hair last summer). I showed these pics and used the word auburn. I've come out with a dark brown with horrible red shimmer in the sun. It is not auburn. I said at the time that it looked dark and not what I expected. She said it's probably the light. It absolutely is not the light. Usual hairdresser mixes a couple of colours and I mentioned this when she showed me the colour she thought was best. I mean, how can she not acknowledge that this is a long way from auburn?!

How is my regular hairdresser going to fix this without wrecking my hair and not costing a fortune. One positive- she put semi permanent on..... but not on the regrowth roots. So the top inch and a half is permanent.

I've always been careful about not going too dark as the usual hairdresser says it's hard to go lighter and now this mess up.

The cut was good.

@goose1964 sorry! Do you mean the colour my hair is now? I don't dislike it.... but it's not so far off my natural colour which IMO is too dark for my very pale skin. Auburn actually looks very natural on me hence why I go to the time and effort to get it done! I've sent a message to my regular hairdresser for advice. She is the friend of the sister of my temporary hairdresser so hope it doesn't get awkward but she is probably best places to say if this is hair gone wrong!

@Nyancat it isn't one particular colour. Stylist mixes a red/brown colour with a copper to achieve what I normally have. A decent hairdresser will get it right!! I've always been told go lighter and brighter as it's easier to make darker than the other way. FFS. Oh why wasn't I more assertive when hairdresser was showing me a colour and I said it was too dark.

You shouldn't have to be assertive.

You're not a hairdresser - you paid a hairdresser (who was presumably trained).

When I travel on a plane, I don't expect to have to tell the pilot what to do.

This isn't your fault. The hairdresser didn't do the job you paid her to do.

(Women always feel guilty about this sort of thing. You shouldn't.)

Update- the hairdresser is going to refund me the cost of a colour correct at my usual salon. I am going to wait to avoid damage to my hair. All fine and not awkward sorting out thankfully.

I think it actually must be quite stressful being a hairdresser- as people expect you to get it right, but sometimes it goes wrong.
