I need some advice on what shoes to wear with dresses. I tend to wear shift dresses that finish at the knee. I can't walk in heels and I want something comfortable.
I don't like my toes ( I think they make my feet look untidy!)
Is there a shoe that is comfortable, flattish and would not look out of place if I had to pop to the office?
Somehow I look ridiculous in the training shoes that others look so cool in.
Also ( and this is the kicker) Dd (14) has to not sneer when she sees them
Am I asking too much?

What does your DD suggest you wear? But she might sneer no matter what you wear, as she's a teenager!

Can you put an example of the type of dress and also how tall are you? I was going to suggest trainers to be honest! Doc Martens?

wizzler · 29/05/2021 09:13

Thanks @TooMinty
I'm 56 and 5 ft 5
I m a size 14
I wear linen shift dresses ( usually from next)
I don't feel right in trainers.. maybe all in my mind! I don't think I am cool enough to pull it off
Last year I wore Mary Jane style shoes from Pavers which add Dd said made me look like a librarian.
In my defence I was very comfortable and would love to be a librarian

I have these. They are supremely comfortable and so far I've worn them - to the office - with a shift dress and crop trousers (they look a lot less clunky on).

TooMinty · 29/05/2021 09:37

Ha! Then embrace the librarian look and ignore your DD 😊

I have some Hush trainers that probably aren't cool but are comfy. And Veja too which might be slightly cooler but are importantly still comfy.

Other shoes that my feet love are Docs, Birkenstocks and Toms - doubt any pass the 14 year old test!

thedevilinablackdress · 29/05/2021 09:42

First of all, stop putting so much weight on what your 14 year old thinks. Teenagers are designed to scorn us. Your spoiling her fun if you get it 'right'
Next - what is your budget? Can you give an example of the sort of dresses you wear? Will you be doing much walking?

thedevilinablackdress · 29/05/2021 09:43

*you're

idontlikealdi · 29/05/2021 09:44

Well ignore your dd! But i would ditch the Mary Janes for trainers.

I wear this kind of thing...

As spotted by Pippa Middleton, though doubt this counts for anything with a 14 year old.

wheresmymojo · 29/05/2021 12:34

I feel mean saying this but 14 year old me would massively sneer at anything from Clarks

ElspethFlashman · 29/05/2021 12:36

Teens sneer at everything.

But have you considered Tom's? They're casual (and super comfy) and a good trainer alternative.

I have a pair of black ones covered in tiny rainbow glitter which gives me much joy!

And if Kate can wear them in the office in Line Of Duty, I think we all should be able to!

Thank you - I only bought it last week after posting on here for suggestions - it was about £20 on eBay!

TooMinty · 30/05/2021 18:24

Oh yes, I have Camper ballet flats too and they are very comfy!
