Grey hair dye

I'm getting to the point in life that I feel like I want to embrace the grey. I've been dying my hair blonde since I was 16 and I'm now 50. It was a dark blonde colour naturally but now looks like it's entirely grey going by the colour of my roots.
So, how do I do it? I thought it would be best to dye it grey and let it grow out from there. Has anyone done this? Are there any decent home great hair dye kits or would a salon be best? I've always dyed it myself after never getting the colour I ask for at a salon.
I'm also a bit concerned as my hair is naturally frizzy/curly and I might look like a mad old woman!
Any tips?

Ah sorry, just saw a previous thread and seems consensus is not to dye as it's a faff!

Dying it lighter isint for the faint hearted! Saying that I am naturally very dark so if your blonde to begin with it will be easier

I would definitely get it done at a salon rather than attempt it yourself.
