Lightening black hair....

Need some advice!!
I've gone against all hairdressers advice and dyed my hair with hair dye from the chemist for about five years.
I actually can't really remember what colour my natural hair it's been so long but it's basically like a dark brown. Somehow though it's now basically black. I've decided I need a major makeover I'm really want my hair to go lighter. I'm so clueless what do I ask for at the hairdressers and is it even possible to go from black to a caramel brown?

I used a chestnut brown other month, done every trick and its still black

I've gone from dyed very dark brown to blonde. I used two lots of Colourb4 which helped remove most of the dye. Then I used two lots of bleach and two bleach baths. Then a normal blonde dye.

Obviously it depends how light you want to go. I'll try and add some pics to show the difference after the Colourb4
