Men wearing rings other than wedding band

What do you think of men wearing rings other than a wedding band? DH wears a ring on his right hand ring finger. It’s something he was given when he emigrated from his home european country at 16 and has an emblem of that country. It’s not a family signet ring, it’s just a nod to his origins.

My friends and work colleagues thought DH was super posh and it was a family crest. This is because he has no hint of a foreign accent, and sounds quite posh. He hates the idea that people think he is snotty and wearing it like a signet ring!

A proper signet type ring worn correctly on the pinkie finger, fine. Anything more than that is rather ‘the opposite of posh’.

Gurkangurke · 28/05/2021 20:19

It's a symbol of our joint sacrifices to facilitate breast feeding. I accept it may not be to everyone's taste though!

TheVolturi · 28/05/2021 20:19

Since when did women find breast milk gross? 🙄

Isidore · 28/05/2021 20:21

My boyfriend seems to love gold rings. He wears 3 or 4. I think many on here would find his taste tacky - he wears about 5 gold chains, too, although one is a golden rosary and quite delicate, as well as a gold bracelet.

Does it for me anyway Wink

Maybe I’m being naive but what “joint” sacrifices did you make?
MaMelon · 28/05/2021 20:34

And why do people say wedding 'band'? In this country, it is wedding 'ring' for men and women

I said it because I only like plain wedding bands - as opposed to other rings which might be used as a wedding ring.

SimonJT · 28/05/2021 20:41

I was a plain stainless steel ring on my right little finger, its symbolic as its part of the five Ks, I do have a kara bangle but I can’t wear it all the time, where as I can wear my kara ring all the time.

Does it really matter what anyone else thinks?

MarjorieBouvier · 28/05/2021 20:51

@Gurkangurke

I wear a ring containing my wife's breast milk below my wedding ring.
That's lovely! I'm thinking of getting one for myself, I didn't think of getting DH one! Do many places do men's?
Gurkangurke · 28/05/2021 20:56

Thanks! We got ours (his and hers) from Cumbria Life Casting.

Gurkangurke · 28/05/2021 20:59

Re joint sacrifices, I suppose it's lots of intangible things and domestic tasks but the reason cited by many women for stopping breastfeeding is a non supportive partner. I guess I am just the polar opposite of that and proud of it. It is a fair point though. I certainly haven't had to do much feeding!

lazylinguist · 28/05/2021 20:59

Interested to know what a man sacrifices for breastfeeding.

Hmm
Elieza · 28/05/2021 21:03

Rings can look really nice in men.

In palm reading apparently a ring on the pinkie finger can mean the wearer is not getting enough sex. Grin

Breast milk is far from gross, don’t think anyone is saying it is. But keeping any kind of milk permanently is a completely different thing!
MrsTerryPratchett · 28/05/2021 21:08

it's lots of intangible things

OK then. If DH tried to take credit for my 14 months of pain and sacrifice he'd be very sorry.

DH wears an engineering ring. It's supposed to remind him not to kill lots of people or something. I assume non-engineers have to remember not to kill people all by themselves without handy accessories.

Blondiney · 28/05/2021 21:14

@Serpenta

although if I was with Jason Momoa I'd be delighted by all his jewellery Grin
Indeed. He could wear elbow length, black satin gloves and I still, absolutely would.

His partner's perky tits, presumably. Hmm
Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 28/05/2021 21:17

I love the idea of you wearing a breastmilk ring @Gurkangurke .

I've done many years of breastfeeding without much support and you are right it's damn important.

I think men should wear what the heck they like on their fingers. I'm not much of a fan of jewellery generally on anyone but I wouldn't judge someone for it.

RosieGuacamosie · 28/05/2021 21:30

I’m guessing also regular sex Hmm

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 28/05/2021 21:45

And having to do "domestic tasks". I.e get their finger out and do a few dishes, or cook some food, because the servant is trapped under a tiny baby having her nipples torn to shreads.

DietrichandDiMaggio · 28/05/2021 22:04

Ignoring the 'I'm so proud of myself for not being a twat about my wife feeding our baby', and focussing on the original question, I think it depends a lot on the age and style of the man. Somebody young and fashion conscious and I probably wouldn't think anything, but on a staid middle-aged man I think a lot of rings might look a bit odd, but two including a wedding ring wouldn't even register.

And what sacrifices have you made to ensure your child is fed with exact food that nature intended?

What sacrifices have you personally made?

AngeloMysterioso · 28/05/2021 22:33

Signet ring doesn’t always equal snotty...

Gurkangurke · 28/05/2021 22:35

I work a full time job and still do 95% of all domestic tasks and probably 70% of non feeding childcare, 95% of preschool runs. I think I deserve to wear the ring!

NautaOcts · 28/05/2021 23:23

@MrsTerryPratchett I am massively intrigued by this!
An engineering ring you say?
