Cantu curly hair products

Hi! I've been using these for a while now and whilst I LOVE not using heat on my hair because it saves me about three hours a day, I'm wondering if there is a better product? I keep getting adverts for Cocunat and wondered if anyone has tried it? I don't mind if it's expensive if it works, I just don't want to spend £60 on something that'll sit unused if it's shit!

Thank you!!!

No help with better products but following as I’ve been using Cantu but not noticing any different in my curls

Fkrkrodps · 28/05/2021 19:36

What curl texture do you have, OP?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/05/2021 19:39

My dd swears by it.

I honestly don't know what that means? I've been straightening my hair for like 20 years and have literally just started to embrace my waves. Here's a picture. My hair is thick!

Try that again...

I've got naturally curly hair and was using Cantu (fairly happily, some days better hair than others!). Got fed up with the bad hair days though.

I switched to Imbue products which were newly released and on offer in Superdrug and they are AMAZING!

Have always had curly hair, never straightened it and so have tried a lot of products over the years. Imbue are the best by far IMO (and they're Curly Girl approved).

QueenPaw · 28/05/2021 20:06

It's trial and error to be honest. My advice is to look for sample sizes on websites like here
https://www.naturalisticproducts.co.uk

My hair likes cheap conditioner but expensive styling products Hmm so I use ecoslay orange marmalade and treluxe
For instance people rave about the bounce curl gel, my hair HATED it. I did used to really like cantu custard
Guess I'm saying better is subjective, it's so individual for hair

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 28/05/2021 20:30

Cantu is for Afro hair , you're isn't .. look for a curl cream in boots . There are loads around a fiver but it really is trial and error ! Do you diffuse your hair?

Siennabear · 28/05/2021 20:32

I’ve tried the coconut. It’s ok, there are better products that are a lot cheaper. I won’t be buying again once I run out. I like Pantene curly mousse and boucleme gel, and diffuse dry.

Fkrkrodps · 28/05/2021 20:40

You look like your hair has tons of potential. I wouldn’t buy expensive products at this stage. Curly hair can be very particular! I’m your shoes I would get a sulphate free shampoo (Noughty range is good) and a conditioner that is free of silicones. I would use some Boots curl creme and a gel. Try air drying and scrunch with a tshirt or micro fibre towel. Do not brush yourself hair and use a wide tooth comb to untangle when your hair is saturated in conditioner. You can then experiment from there. There are some great Facebook groups for curly hair. Your hair looks lovely now, but I think it could look sensational.

LtGreggs · 28/05/2021 20:40

Your hair is similar to mine (though I am a dark brunette). I predict that it makes ringlets when you get the cut and products right?

I don't get on with cantu. (I think it is maybe more aimed at afro hair?)
I currently use garner hair food (coconut one) as a leave+in conditioner, with tresemme air dry natural hold gel. Both at standard supermarkets/Boots and not expensive.

For washing, I use any old shampoo and a non-silicone conditioner (Tresemme naturals or the garner coconut one from same range as the hair food, or the cheapy inecto coconut one).

mscynical · 28/05/2021 20:40

Cantu did nothing to my hair at all.

Just started using Twisted Sista Leave In Conditioner followed by Amazing Dream Curl Gel and hair never looked better. Seems new to Superdrug and currently with a third off so not expensive.

Springchickpea · 28/05/2021 20:40

My hair doesn’t like cantu, but like yours, my hair is more loose curls and waves than tight ringlets. My hair does really well on the Umberto Gianini curl jelly range. The ‘wash’ and ‘care’ aren’t strictly CG approved, but are silicon and sulfate free and leave my hair looking good most of the time.

NotOnMyWatchSunshine · 28/05/2021 20:58

God, thank you all for your replies!

So I use a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner, only use a wide tooth comb when it's wet and I'm in the shower, I don't use a towel I use a cotton T-shirt and I don't use a diffuser, I let it air dry.

I'll try the boots curl cream stuff I keep hearing about, if I can find it in stock somewhere, the Cantu stuff is almost run out so I'll start the process of finding something else from all these amazing suggestions!!

The Cantu products are on the heavy side and tended to make my hair a bit 'stringy'. My hair is thick and looks to be a similar textures to yours. Lighter creams and gels worked better at encouraging the curls to, well, curl. Grin

I've gone back to the straighteners so can't recommend any products but I'm taking notes.

cocoloco987 · 29/05/2021 08:27

Cantu is very heavy and not normally suitable for wavy curls. It's more for Afro type. I'm
loving the garnier hair food range for dd atm although we do full curly girl- no shampoo. Shea moisture has a lighter rinse conditioner that is lovely too

Nope, not for over 5 years now. She washes with conditioner, rinses, then leaves in the second application

QueenPaw · 29/05/2021 09:32

Boucleme is one I've just thought of that does sample sizes too, and innersense if you feel spendy Grin

caramelchaos · 29/05/2021 11:08

Boucleme! I highly recommend the super hold styling gel and curl creme together, it makes my curls amazing. My hair is a similar wave to yours but not as thick. I thought the travel kit (think it was about £23) which had 4 100ml different products in. I'm a total convert! I was using cantu before this but found the curl custard was making my hair look dandruffy

caramelchaos · 29/05/2021 11:10

Sorry, was £33. I've tried the hair oil too but wasn't keen on it

NotOnMyWatchSunshine · 30/05/2021 14:34

I washed my hair last night without shampoo and the difference in the waves is unbelievable!!!
