New skin care routine making me spotty!

pancakes22 · 25/05/2021 22:39

I started using the ordinary products religiously about 6 weeks ago now but I am finding that I am coming out in a lot of really sore spots especially around my nose. Is there anything I'm doing wrong? Is there a part of the routine I should stop if it's bringing me out in spots?

Morning:
Toner
Buffet
Caffeine round eyes
Moisturising factors
Spf

Evening
Cleanser toner
Retinol
Vit c
Moisturising factors

Thank you

That's a lot of new products to introduce all at once.

I'd stop using the retinol and Vit C until your skin calms down as they're both actives and seem the most likely to be upsetting your skin. I wouldn't use those two products at the same time anyway. Retinol - evening and Vit C - morning is how I'd slot them into my routine.

Why are you using so many products op?

Why caffeine around your eyes?

Lampan · 25/05/2021 23:25

I may be wrong but I didn’t think you were supposed to use retinol every day? Agree it sounds like a lot of products.
Personally I found The Ordinary to be crap even after a few months of regular use. Most of the products didn’t seem to do anything at all. Micellar water, blue Nivea creme and SPF50 seems to do way more for me than the routine I had from The Ordinary.

@PandoraP

Why caffeine around your eyes?

Caffeine is one of the only things that actually helps dark circles

wheresmymojo · 25/05/2021 23:41

What % retinol are you using?

I agree with PP that retinol and Vit C shouldn't be used at the same time - Vit C should be morning and retinol in the evening.

Personally I found that using a Vit C that was in an oil base/squalene broke me out in acne. I stopped using it and the acne cleared up. So now I'm on the hunt for Vit C in a serum / non oily base.

Thank you that's really useful. I was just advised by a friend who is really into beauty that these are the things to use so went for it!! Will stop the retinol and vit c for a few weeks and then reintroduce slowly rather than every day, see if that helps.

Thank you again.

Slightly missing the point of your question but what caffeine product are you using for your eyes?

Or does anyone have recommendations that have worked well?
