Long Body and Swimwear

I am really struggling to find a swimsuit suitable for actual swimming that fits my long body. I don't want my boobs hanging out when I am doing lengths which seem to be the case for a lot of longer length costumes but equally I don't want a full camels toe if I wear a regular swimsuit - noone needs to see this and its uncomfortable!

Any longer bodies ladies who have solved the problem?

Lands End do some of their swimwear in a long version.

Grizalda · 25/05/2021 16:18

Oh me!
I hate swimwear shopping with a passion. There used to be a few places that did specifically Long bodied suits and they seem to all have ceased.
The last couple I've bought have just been flukes in amongst the regular ones.
I have one from ASOS tall range but I had to buy and return a ton of them to find that one.

Definitely following for tip offs on where to look next.

Blossomandbee · 25/05/2021 16:21

I have this problem and also need one to accommodate a large bust, finding both is impossible! I have had to resort to a tankinj.
For a one piece I think Long Tall Sally do swimwear, if they're still available online. Also places like Next have swimwear in their tall ranges.

Eminybob · 25/05/2021 16:24

The Boden Santorini comes in long. Great swimming costume.

mumonthehill · 25/05/2021 16:27

Halocline swim wear, not the most fashion forward in design but they do long line and having just bought one and spent more than I normally would I am delighted with it. I have also had one from long talk sally which was ok.

CMOTDibbler · 25/05/2021 16:29

I'm learning to make my own - even my very first attempt is better than 95% of all swimming costumes I've bought. Full bust adjustment, internal bra, lined, 2" longer in the body, and I lowered the leg line as well.
I'm going on a weekend course in July to get all the pro tips

Of cossies I've bought, the Deakin and Blue is the best fit

Simply be used to do a lot and not only in plus sizes. I have now swapped to a sporty tankini which does the trick for me but I know a lot of people don’t like them, I think you need to look at the standard swimwear brands if you want a tankini that won’t move around etc

Topbird29 · 25/05/2021 16:54

I got a longer body swimsuit in m & s a few years ago - not sure if they still do them. As a larger lady with a big bust, it was also one designed for actual swimming and boobs stayed put.

PrimeraVez · 25/05/2021 18:18

I have the same issue - Next Tall range just about do and are reasonably priced and not too ugly.

ASOS Tall range also have some, although they are more ‘sitting on the beach’ and not ‘swimming lengths at the local pool’ in style.

Am currently pregnant and trying to find a tall range maternity swimsuit that doesn’t make me look like Big Daddy has been quite a challenge. To make it worse, I live in the Middle East and quite literally live in a swimming costume at the weekends.

I wear separates. This, from Finisterre is pricy because it’s recycled/eco friendly buy this is the kind of thing.

Seconding the Boden Santorini in longer length. I have a long body and it fits very well.

Patup5 · 25/05/2021 19:56

Lands End have a good selection and frequent offers. They are excellent quality too.

Stretchandsnap · 25/05/2021 20:00

Another for landsend. I am 6’1 and very long in the body and really like the fit of their one pieces

Sading · 25/05/2021 20:03

Me too! I mourn the loss of BHS as their swimwear was the perfect length. I’m holding on to some of their swimwear from last century because it’s such a mission buying new.
I’m going to look at some of the ranges others have suggests.
Avoid Sainsbury’s Tu and Speedo which cut fir short bodies.

Sading · 25/05/2021 20:04

@CMOTDibbler the course sounds amazing? Could you share where it is?

CMOTDibbler · 25/05/2021 20:09

@Sading its run by Amanda Bowden at Felixstowe Sewing School. She also has a great FB group called Sewing for Swimming which is really helpful

Sading · 26/05/2021 07:56

Thank you so much CMOT, Felixstowe is a bit far from me but I’m off to look at the FB group.

Tipsylizard · 26/05/2021 11:48

Thanks everyone. I have ordered the Boden Santorini as it has my size in long so hope that fits the bill.

Making your own swimwear sounds awesome!

I’ve just gone online to do the same but they don’t seem to have any long length left in a 12 and I’ve not worn Boden to know if I could fit a 10.

soyabean · 26/05/2021 22:23

Does anyone have any other suggestions? The Santorini has a halter neck which I never get on with.
I’m finding it so hard to find long bodied, boob supporting, preferably sporty-ish ( ie for pool not beach). I recently ordered and returned 2 from Lands End- too short. I’m 5’8 , size 12. Any help will be gratefully received.

supadupapupascupa · 26/05/2021 22:29

I either get mine from simply be (although I don't like shapewear swimsuits or plain black which they all seem to be) My last one is from Long Tall Sally, the veins I have bought from there.

hippospot · 27/05/2021 12:07

I haven't read whole thread.

I switched to a Speedo bikini and will never go back to a one piece.

My DD though has the same problem and is a self-conscious teen who won't wear a bikini. We eventually found that certain styles of Speedo have adjustable straps.

Speedo also do some boy-leg tankinis.

Ambrose Wilson do longer bodies swim wear each includ ing swimwear rather than bathers on the beach
