In just over 2 weeks In going on holiday with my extended family. The long term forecasts are look In good. As we have 3 under 5s I expect we'll spend more time on the beach than we usually do. For one day I've got a bardot dress . I need to think of something that is going to be OK in the water, but only paddling so full swim wear is not needed . I was thinking shorts but the only ones I've seen that I've liked are either £30+ or only come in tiny sizes. I'm a size 18 and don't like anything touching my leg so denim shorts are out. So can anyone find me a pair of loose shorts that come in at under £20 .

H&M is worth a look, I recently got some paper bag shorts and they have a good selection for reasonable prices. The ones I got are out of stock in your size here but they have loads of options. E.g.

Try Gap men’s shorts.

Land's End often have some in the sale from previous years at about £20, but it's a lottery for size and colour. Worth looking, I found my favourite shorts in the sale there.

What I've learnt from a series of UK beach break on windswept beaches in Norfolk is the following; always bring a fleece or showerproof windcheater and at least two pairs of zip of walking trousers that turn into shorts are great as they dry quickly, are easy to get sand out of (sand glues onto denim I find).

Dresses are tricky with small children as I always end up flashing my knickers bending down to help child. Also had a Marilyn Monroe momemt when wind blew dress up over my head! I now stick to shorts or pop on cycling shoets under skirt/dress.

Next have some jersey shorts which don't look too clingy?

Bloke board shorts are great, decent length and not cut like a pair of knickers. Rash vest for sun protection (solstice coming up) and you are good to go.

You’ll need your big coat

I live very close to,and used to live there, I'm pretty sure my denim jacket will be fine as it's a good weight. Saying no denim guess what I just did. Bought a pair of side legged denim shorts charity shop bargain for £3.99 ,. I love the paper bag shorts I have a pair of green paper bag cropped trousers which are so flattering.

I realise this is S&B, but fleeces and crocs, surely? Grin

stuckinarutatwork · 25/05/2021 15:44

I'm in Devon now. I wouldn't worry about shorts and swimwear.
Fleeces, waterproof jackets and Crocs are what you'll need. And maybe a DryRobe and some woolly socks for when you get out the water.

Some of these are loose around the leg and come in at £20.www.laredoute.co.uk/psrch/psrch.aspx?kwrd=shorts&collID=157878#associated&srt=noSorting
