Olaplex Shampoo & Conditioner

Just wondering if I'm doing something wrong! Have been using the number 3 at home for a few week and hair feels ok after but I've not noticed a huge difference so I bought the shampoo and conditioner after reading rave reviews. It's just not working for me and I'm not sure if it's my hair or if I'm doing something wrong? Once I've rinsed off the conditioner my hair feels like straw (how it usually feels without conditioner), it's hard work to get a comb through and I'm having to use a spray in conditioner to help me out. Once I've dried it it just feels heavy and almost like I haven't rinsed it properly (I have I'm sure). I'm a bit pissed off as it cost me £48 and my hair seems worse!

Anyone had anything similar?

No, it works great for me. I don't think the shampoo and conditioner add as much as the 3 but they don't make it worse. I have to lather the shampoo up in my hands with a bit of water first otherwise I'd get through loads

UniBallEye · 24/05/2021 16:24

I don't like them either and have pretty much the same reaction as you.
I don't think they condition my hair well. I have dyed hair, no bleach and it makes my hair very straw-like too.

I was given mine as a gift but I won't be re-purchasing.

I use Kevin Murphy Hydrate Me shampoo and conditioner and find it really good and have been using it for about 2 years now

FizzyPink · 24/05/2021 16:30

I’ve had exactly the same experience OP. My hair feels like it’s much drier since I started using the shampoo and conditioner with No.3. I’m also finding that I’ve got a lot more breakage than normal because it doesn’t seem to condition it very well so it’s a lot harder to brush through than before.
I won’t be buying them again but curious why so many people rave about it.

ZaraW · 24/05/2021 17:06

Love number 3. The shampoo and conditioner were a waste of money.

CommanderBurnham · 24/05/2021 17:21

No. 3 is the workhorse.

The rest is just to make money out of the success of the brand.

I'm watching closely to see if no. 0 is worth the extortionate price.

OP. You may not notice an improvement in your hair if it's in good condition but what you should hopefully find is that in a few months, it's virtually damage free

My twice bleached hair had barely any split ends after going 8 months without a hairdresser during last year.

Whiffle77 · 24/05/2021 18:13

I absolutely hated the shampoo and conditioner, they made my hair feel awful and gave me really terrible dandruff! It took so long to get rid of it again, my scalp was so itchy.

I love 3 and 6, but ended up binning 4 and 5 - an expensive decision!! I did keep trying them for awhile but my head got itchier and itchier...

I went back to my trusty kerastase

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/05/2021 19:37

I have the 3 and the 6.
I use either side of whatever shampoo/conditioner I'm using.

I've noticed quite an improvement after just 2 applications (not dyed but going grey)
I'm glad I didn't invest in the shampoo/conditioner from Olaplex

Bananaman123 · 24/05/2021 19:50

I have fine bleached hair and had the same experience . Really didn't get on with it at all and hair didn't feel really clean afterwards.

I've gone back k to Redken and using the new acidic bonding range which I like

SnottyLottie · 24/05/2021 19:53

No.3 worked wonders for me. The shampoo did nothing. I noticed the conditioner worked but it took a few washes to see the difference.

BooksChocolateAndSleep · 24/05/2021 20:26

Thanks everyone for the replies. Kind of glad it's not just me as I wondered what I was doing wrong.

@UniBallEye that's my hair as well, dyed but not bleached and it just feels very straw like. I'll have a look at the Kevin Murphy shampoo.. I'm regretting wasting £50 now!

@FizzyPink that's what I'm finding with my hair, it's breaking more because it's so much harder to comb. Also wondering why people have been raving over them 🤷‍♀️

Think I'll give it another week and see if it changes but if not I'll find something else and just carry on with No.3.

Are you using them everytime you wash? I only use them once every week, and the 3 every fortnight. I won't get the shampoo and conditioner again as they don't add much.

IslandSnow · 26/05/2021 07:52

I’ve been using the 3 for four years and love it. Got 4 and 5 though and they just didn’t work for me

dudsville · 26/05/2021 08:31

I have straw hair, it's natural just a lot of white hair. I bought the 0, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. 0 is a pain and since I only ever use it with the 3 I can't tell if it's worth it, so I won't repurchase. I also don't feel any added value from the 7. The 3, 4 and 5 I will repurchase to use alternatively with my other regime which is elasticiser extreme and aveda dry hair remedy.

dudsville · 26/05/2021 08:32

I should say these take away my straw like hair.

Chimboo · 26/05/2021 08:36

Same - none of them worked for me. The straw feeling turned into an allergic reaction, severe flaky itchy scalp and puffy eyes 😩 six months on my hair still isn’t the same, wish I hadn’t persevered because I was upset about the waste of money!

PurpleSunrise · 26/05/2021 08:39

Those with number 3, how often do you use if and how much do you put on hair each time?

TheWeeDonkeyIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/05/2021 08:42

The Olaplex didn't work for me. My hair was in terrible condition after bleaching it, dying it red then going back to brown.

I tried the cheapy Revolution dupe and that did seem to make a difference. I think it was £30 for all the system (a pre wash conditioner, shampoo and conditioner and a pre styling cream). I struggled to get a brush through it before.

FizzyPink · 26/05/2021 09:17

I use no.3 every time I wash my hair although I do only wash my hair every 6-7 days so it’s not that often.
I don’t find it goes very far so tend to use a 50p size amount for the ends and then probably the same for the rest.
