Inspire me. I don’t know what I want. I’ve got a technical waterproof coat for hiking and really bad weather, but I’m off to Cornwall for a week next week and the weather looks dry, if a little chilly.

I am not very stylish, but I bought a packaway over the weekend because it is both humid and rainy where I am in London, and I get hot because I am on the Tube a lot. Tog has some other warmer jackets on sale. www.tog24.com/products/craven-womens-long-waterproof-packaway-jacket-aubergine?refSrc=4420321804378&nosto=productpage-nosto-2

I was lucky enough to get a Burberry trench for Christmas, a very classic style in camel. I have loved wearing it this spring, blocks the wind, protects me from rain, and gives a little warmth without making me too hot. It also goes with pretty much everything. However, I don't know if you are looking for a more 2021 trend jacket?

PieElla · 24/05/2021 15:24

I'm very casual but I have ..

Bird + Wolf camo jacket

Levi's denim trucker jacket

Jaeger leather jacket

North face pink and black cropped rain coat

Iamthewombat · 24/05/2021 15:34

Are you after a jacket to be chic in, or a jacket to protect you from the elements? I’m guessing the former if you already have a technical jacket. I’d be looking at a utility/military type jacket that I could layer a cardigan beneath, which you could combine with a scarf on chillier days?

Here you go. Superdry not just for the teenagers!

Tehmina23 · 24/05/2021 16:19

For summer I've got a smart blue denim jacket £13 from Primark.

Two casual hoodies from Gap (one pale aqua, one dark grey).

One fitted black lightweight waterproof jacket by Gelert from Sports Direct.

Very tempted by this. Probably in the beige, but possibly in yellow.

I'm not buying another coat.

I'm not buying another coat.

I'm definitely, definitely not buying another coat.

Anyway, I have a beige trench from Hobbs, that I bought for going to work last year but thankfully looks good over jeans /summer casual dresses, a denim jacket (that i can layer with a thin hoodie for extra warmth) from New Look that goes well with dresses, and 2 leather jackets, one black and one beige. (Black is a vintage one that really is a bit too small for me and beige for Whistles a few years ago.)

I have a proper walking rain mac /wind cheater thing, but if I wear it with anything other than "active wear", I think i looks seriously frumpy and like someone who's decided sex is no longer for them.

I think there's a gap in my wardrobe for a non-sporty rain coat that's not a proper rain mac.

But as I previously mentioned- I'm definitely not buying another coat....

I quite like that Superdry one. I’m looking for something I can mooch about in during the day, but also go for dinner in on an evening. So smartish but not too formal. I’ve looked at a few trenches, but just not sure.

My technical raincoat has exactly that vibe that Margo describes. I thought it was quite stylish until I saw photos of myself in it. Strictly for hiking or bad weather days now.

Margo has a fantastic way with words. That really made me laugh and also made me reconsider some of my coat choices... Seriously considering that Cos trench, but not sure I can justify it.

goose1964 · 25/05/2021 11:40

I have a denim jacket from M&S, it's slightly longer than most but not overly so, a black red and white blazer from green-fields which is getting it's first outing today.. Finally trusted mountain warehouse rain coat

bendmeoverbackwards · 25/05/2021 13:45

I love jackets and coats, have far too many!

I’ve got a denim jacket but it hasn’t even been warm enough for that! I normally wear it over summer dresses but my legs haven’t seen the light of day yet (I feel the cold).

Black leather biker jacket - always a good investment. Mines from Massimo Dutti and I wear it loads.

I bought a Taylor raincoat from Fat Face. It’s waterproof but still looks quite smart I think. Mines a tan colour but it also comes in other colours.

I’ve also got hanging up (still deciding about it) a navy blue Howell jacket from Boden. I don’t really need it but don’t want to send it back either 🤷‍♀️

Annasgirl · 25/05/2021 14:52

I love that Superdry jacket in Green - thanks to the poster, I may now have to buy it.
(I, too, was looking for a Summer jacket that went with everything - I already have a denim one, a leather one, and a blazer, but I needed a casual, slightly longer one).

Fferny1 · 25/05/2021 15:20

A Protected Species Tour in Khaki. Just in time for the weather to change...

VenusClapTrap · 25/05/2021 18:04

Thanks for all the ideas. It’s helpful to see what others are wearing.

Right I’ve just been down a rabbit hole on ASOS and waded through a forest of shackets and bombers and utility jackets, and emerged the other side with three coats in my basket (a trench, a lightweight parka and a faux leather ‘oversized’ jacket. So hopefully one of them will look ok when they arrive!

VenusClapTrap · 25/05/2021 18:05

Oh and I’ve ordered a fleece for ds from Tog24 thanks to the first poster, so thanks for that!

OP posts:
MaryTheMiddle · 25/05/2021 18:54

Oh that's exciting op! I have ordered the Cos trench in beige. I had to take a bit of a gamble on the size though, so we'll see.

VenusClapTrap · 25/05/2021 19:31

Nice! I was very tempted by that in yellow, but it looks very long and I am rather short.

OP posts:
MaryTheMiddle · 25/05/2021 19:38

Ah I'm tall, so usually coats are too short on me, which is part of the reason I liked this one.

I loved the yellow, but thought neutral (boring) beige might have more longevity.

Frequentflier · 25/05/2021 19:46

I was feeling a bit sheepish after I posted the Tog link because I see I am dressing far more casually than other posters, but glad it was useful. That Cos trench is lovely.
