I bought this coat a couple of years ago and hardly wear it, mainly because I can't work out what to wear it with. Mine was an Ebay purchase and is dark blue rather than purple but otherwise looks almost the same as the JL picture.

I'd normally wear a long coat over midi / long skirts, and a shorter fleece / jacket with trousers. This one is somewhere in between so maybe just needs some getting used to. Is there an obvious pairing? Trousers? Skirt length? Just stop over-thinking and get on and wear the thing?!

Skinny jeans and quirky ankle boots
Cigarette pants and slingback kitten heels with a Bardot top or boat / slash neckline
Slim boyfriend style jeans and a black skinny turtle neck with it open and biker boots.

Midi skirt will be too Dickens extra IMO but a tube midi skirt or slinky midi dress would work though

Chunky pullover and jeans. White shirt and wide leg jeans. Pleated skirts and shirts. Anything as it’s mid length so I’m assuming below the knee. I’m not a fan of funnel necks. Add a scarf in winter. Any floral midi dress that goes ok with navy. As it’s velvet I think it’s a winter coat for nights out.

Thank you @PresentingPercy and @Cleverpolly3

I've got a pair of slim fit / skinny trousers and (somewhere - I wear them to work and have been WFH for months!) a pair of wide leg trousers. Also yy to trying it with a straight skirt. Long floaty maxi skirt and full midi skirts just look wrong.

The hemline is above my knee so maybe not quite the same as the JL picture in the OP. I quite like the funnel neck but I can imagine the coat looking more 'me' open-necked with a scarf. Sounds like I might need to experiment a bit and pull a variety of things out of the wardrobe when I can get some peace.

If it’s above the knee then no to midi or maxi in my view. I think trousers or jeans. Any style really. Chunky neck knits would be good. Fairly plain neck pullovers with a scarf.

Gorgeous! Wear with anything! Now I want one...

Definitely better with trousers - thanks for the nudge. Short straight skirt worked too. In my head, nice coat+long floaty skirt seemed right, but in reality short and / or tailored wins -just need to tone up my legs

@Ostara212 thank you! It doesn't deserve to be languishing at the back of the wardrobe. Wearing it is definitely the right plan, and wearing it in a way that looks and feels 'right' is even better. Just need the rain to stop Grin
