What would you wear under an oversized shirt/hoodie dress?

This or this sort of thing. I get dresses-over-leggings is out, but I don't feel like they'd look right with tights, and I'm not currently feeling optimistic for many days when they'd be good bare-legged!

I'm also thinking they look easy & relaxed, but are they going to suit a short middle aged woman? (I totally get that age is irrelevant, but I still don't look good in the same things as I did 25 years ago! Far to easy to tip over into 'fun' childrens tv presenter look)

I have a hoodie dress. I wear it with tights and either ankle boots or high tops. Might also give it a go with footless tights and sandals in summer.

id wear it with cropped/capri leggings and DMs

Youngatheart00 · 23/05/2021 15:39

Tbh I’d wear either with black, full length leggings. That or skinny black jeans but let’s face it the leggings are way more comfy. I think the oversized shirts and hoodies are still on trend enough to make the leggings acceptable. It’s not the leggings and a dress combo we were all rocking 10 yrs ago

Branleuse · 23/05/2021 15:51

I dont know why everyone pretends they dont love leggings

VaccineMcQueen · 23/05/2021 16:02

Absolutely leggings!

I have a hoodie dress and I wear it with leggings and DM boots. And I am 58 so probably older than you! I wouldn't wear leggings with a more traditional dress anymore but I think it still works with the oversized hoodie or check shirt.

OK, sounds like leggings is worth a try. I've got a slimmer fitting hoodie dress I always used to wear with leggings, but that just doesn't look right now. Ironically it looks OK I think over combats - maybe the answer is just needing a baggier element to the overall shape somewhere.

I'm wearing an oversized cream camo sweatshirt from hush with black and grey camo sports leggings.

Sounds like a good Sunday outfit, Zen

Sports leggings with the hoodie and if the e weather was better than it is now, I’d wear denim shorts under the shirt dress. I’d wear Vans high tops with both.

Sadik · 23/05/2021 20:35

Interesting, hadn't thought of shorts under as an option, but I can see it could look good. I don't generally do denim but I did wonder if wide legged / carpenter style jeans could work too.

Just back from town (hurrah!) and a lot of the young uns are wearing plain sports leggings, which of course look just like normal leggings from a distance, it's only up close that there's something about the sheen or fit. So basically, as a pp said, everyone still loves leggings, as long as they're sports ones - and that's what I'd wear under that. Shorts and boots will look great if there's ever any heat!

eandz13 · 23/05/2021 20:43

Cycling style shorts. X

I wear this sort of thing a lot. I generally go for baggy on top or bottom, so if it’s an oversized shirt I wear leggings or skinny jeans (yeah I know). Or a fitted top with looser trousers. But I don’t have a particularly good figure and never quite got over my 90s grunge phase so not necessarily best placed to advise...

Sadik · 23/05/2021 20:57

"never quite got over my 90s grunge phase"
that might also be me...
