I lopped 9 inches off my hair!!

This may be of absolutely no interest to any of you, but I need to tell someone!!
So, I've grown my hair out for probably the last 5 years, it was right down my back. Haven't been to a hair dressers for years. My hair however is thin and I find drying/styling it a total chore. Getting a hair brush stuck in it was the last straw for me so last night I did the 'beard method' and lopped a whole 9 inches off and DH tidied the length up for me. My hair feels and looks amazing! I've now got a nice just below shoulder length blunt cut. Can't quite get over the fact that my head feels so light now!

I'm going to start treating myself to some what I would call posh shampoos/conditioners. (Normally Herbal Essences does the job for me ha!) Can you lovely lot recommend me some nice products? I read a lot about Keratine and Opalex products and I'm quite interested to see what the hype is. I feel like buying a nice hair mask too.
I think for the first time ever, I'll find blow drying my hair a total dream! I couldn't be happier!

Wow, that's a lot of hair to lop off, bet you feel like a new woman! I wish I had that much to cut off, I can barely get mine to grow past my shoulders haha!

Like you I have very fine hair. I personally love Monat products, they have a range for any hair type, the products are all leaping bunny approved and have no nasties in them. They really helped with my postnatal hair loss, nothing else I had tried had. You don't need to use much of the products either so I find they last me ages. I was recommended it by my hairdresser friend, she has used all of the big brand professional shampoos and literally won't use anything else! 🙂 x

Good for you op! Obviously we want before and after pics.

I like the Olaplex shampoo and conditioner and once a week use the Elasticizer mask. I also use Davines all in one milk spray on towel dry hair. Smells amazing and protects the hair from heat.

Once every couple of weeks I use a cheaper shampoo (usually Aussie) in place of Olaplex. Can't remember why my hairdresser recommended doing this but she did!

Heartbeats0708 · 21/05/2021 09:26

I'm still searching for my holy grail shampoo & conditioner (nothing yet comes close to ultimate blends honey treasure) but my favourite hair mask at the moment is the Garnier hair food pots. I like the coconut one best. They're quite cheap and cheerful but I like that it's a pot you can use weekly as I have that daft "save special things for best" mentality.

Tuckedinbelly · 21/05/2021 09:27

Elasticizer is by Philip Kingsley not Olaplex.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 21/05/2021 09:30

@luckymagnoliatree Thanks for your reply! I absolutely do feel like a new woman haha! It had taken me a long old time to get to the length it did but then I realised that my hair type just didn't suit the length iyswim?
I have a 14 month old to run around after at the moment and I realised I was neglecting my hair, it normally gets shoved up in a mum bun lol. I'll definitely look into that brand actually, I had horrific post-partum hair loss (my hairline started receeding) I'm 20 weeks pregnant with baby no.2 now so I'm preparing myself this time!

DD cut 13 inches off her hair when she was 13, and another 16 inches off last year (although she did get it professionally cut both times). Everyone went on about "how brave" she was; she just shrugged saying "its just hair, whatever".

Making a drastic change like that it quite exciting I think, it's almost a reinvention of yourself.

MyGrassIsBrowner · 21/05/2021 09:33

@Tuckedinbelly Ohhh before and after pics.. bare with me let's see what I can find! I'm quite camera shy usually, ha!! Aussie tends to me my treat shampoo and conditioner I just LOVE the scent!

Grin - first time took about 8 years to grow, second time she went much shorter and it "only" took 5 years. Donated it both times to the Little Princess Trust (plug for a great charity who provide wigs for children with cancer, and can now also do afro wigs which they weren't able to do before).

@MyVisionsComeFromSoup That's blumming incredible. I did look at Little Princess Trust to donate my cuttings, but looking at it I dont think they could do much with it - do you think I could donate this? I think I'd feel a bit sad just throwing it in the bin.

@irinagraham Ohh I'm all for trying products that will help with a bit of volume.. I'd do some googling on those products! Thank you!

Cut mine off from bum length to just above my shoulders. Mine's curly, so very forgiving if it's not even. I love it. So easy to look after and no more matted bits at the back to deal with. Dyeing it is a breeze now.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 21/05/2021 10:07

You might want to get out of doors a bit more too, you look quite pale in the first photo. Grin

MyGrassIsBrowner · 21/05/2021 10:07

@Mabelface Ahhh wow that's a lot of hair! I actually didn't think about dyeing it actually, I tend to use generic box dyes on my hair and had started to notice that I was struggling to cover my whole hair with one box. With this length I might get away with two uses from one box! 🤭

MyGrassIsBrowner · 21/05/2021 10:08

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles LOL. For a second there I did think you were having a genuine dig as I am incredibly pale.. then I realise I white washed my face 😂😂

That’s such an improvement in that you’ve lovely thicker looking hair! Well done.

I like Pantene Sulphate Free Thickening Shampoo & Conditioner. Pantene has come on a long way since the 80’s!

MyGrassIsBrowner · 21/05/2021 11:16

@HeraInTheHereAndNow Thank you! Quite amzazing what difference a cut can make though isn't it!
I do use Pantene now and again actually so I'll look into that one!

I cut 6 inches off mine. Unfortunately my curls don't know what to and I was up with Ken Dodd's hair. It has two weeks to settle before we go on holiday .

MyGrassIsBrowner · 21/05/2021 19:41

@goose1964 Oh no!!! 🙈 that did make me chuckle though. I'm sure it looks lovely!!
