How to look good in the Rain

HI All,

OK, so very, very wet day in Dublin and I have had to face it - my 10 year old "standby" rain outfit is no longer up to scratch.

So, it was - Rain Jacket - Isle Jacobsen - it was never stylish but now really looks "mummy".

Hunter wellies - theses still look ok but I will need to upgrade soon as they are over 10 years old (purchased in 2009 I think!!!).

I parked beside a school mum this morning wearing the current rain "look". Please help me to replicate stylish mums of MN.

Black thick soled ankle boots - like thick-soled Chelsea boots, coming up to above the ankle.

Coated leggings or jeans

A Line, hooded, rain coat to the knee - I'm not sure of the fabric but I think it was like the fabric used by Rains Jackets. This was either dark, dark green or black.

Now, I only like to wear navy or grey so I would prefer not to spend lots of money on a black outfit.

Also, I don't need to replicate the whole outfit - I just need a waterproof outfit that is also stylish (and it is a very key outfit if you live in Ireland!!!).
Perhaps those of you who live/Lived in Copenhagen or similar might have some stylish ideas.

Thanks to you all.

I like the Rains Curve coat:

Protected species raincoats are lovely.

Ugg are doing some really nice boots at the moment. Not the sheepskin kind.

I always get lots of admiring looks when I go out with my umbrella - plus it's hands free!

I have this coat, and I love it (from Fat Face last year, but they seem to have it in Next?) www.next.co.uk/style/st542122/764415
It's A-line, just above the knee, totally waterproof, and feels lovely and cocooning in the rain.
With skinny jeans and wilderness boots - www.celticandco.com/womens/footwear/wilderness-boots
I struggle more with footwear when it's warm and wet...but it hasn't warmed up enough yet for that to be a problem!!

I'm a mum. It's a job I'm pretty proud of having. Pisses me off no end when looking like a mum is a bad thing. That's not "style", that's dragging people down and assigning drudgery to motherhood.

Find better words.

Annasgirl · 20/05/2021 14:31

I'm really sorry @Nohomemadecandles - I didn't mean to offend. I too am a mum. Yes, it was the wrong choice of words.

I meant that I wanted to look more stylish on the school run, not because it is the school run but because I currently work from home and I drop DS at school and then head to the park with the dog. That is my outing for the day at the moment, and I would like to look good doing it.

Lovely @TaraR2020 Grin.

But way too windy here for that - hence why I need a coat with a hood!!!

I found the boots - looks like I need to go back to the drawing board Grin

For some reason I cannot link them but they are €850 on My Theresa Shock

Whoops, meant to link to women's BV boots, but you've obviously found them yourself :)
Cheaper Zara versions:

I rate this coat from sweaty betty- www.sweatybetty.com/shop/tops/coats-and-jackets/mission-waterproof-parka-SB6171_NavyBlue.html?dwvar_SB6171__NavyBlue_color=navyblue&cgid=jackets&tile=18.0#start=18
For boots I would go for classic DM Chelsea boots

SummaLuvin · 20/05/2021 15:05

Zara have decent dupes for those boots. And now in the sale as there season for boots is ending.

Thank you all so much - I hope this helps someone else who lives with lots of rain too.

Yes - it looks like I will have to invest ! But I suppose I get 10 years out of these things.

I might do the jacket now and the boots later - I think I might get the summer out of the Hunter wellies Smile.

I love the Sweaty Betty and it will look good with leggings too, which is what I wear on wet or cold days.

Annasgirl · 20/05/2021 15:07

Oh, I might get the Zara boots - I'm not sure about investing even the price of the Hunters in those kind of Chelsea boots as they seem more like a passing fad (or something that would date quickly - no use to me!!!).

I'm a Uniqlo fan in general, and have an older version of this:
