Balayage but lazy

Really want to brighten up my look a bit, I’d describe myself as looking post natal, box dye gothy with half grown out fringe. Pinterest has got me down a balayage hole. Will I need to style it everyday to make it look nice. How do you style it at home? Can it be done over box dyed hair? It’s a lot of money and wondering about others experience.

giving this a little bump as I am curious too. I have this booked, but will be my first time having any sort of colour on my hair so I have no experience.

From what I understand balayage is a modern highlighting method, so shouldn't necessarily need styling to look good like a fringe does, but I have heard someone say it doesn't always look good on pin straight hair.

I have balayage. It looks lovely when you have waves or curls in but generally I just wear my hair straight or tie it up, it's no different in terms of daily styling than any other kind of colour technique. Hairdressers take photos of it with loose curls or waves as that really shows off the colour to it's best advantage.
I have mine done twice a year, roots grow through naturally so it needs far less maintenance for colour.
Just do a bit of research and go to someone who really knows what they are doing and is well practiced in balayage though as a bad job can look like a dip dye!

I had balayage for a while and loved it as it was low maintenance- as PP said I only had to have it done twice a year max. I usually straighten my hair and still liked the effect- mine was like Hannah Rochell’s (see her on Instagram), with a similar fringe as well.

I’d love to do it again, but I have more grey now so I’d have to go back much more often just to get the roots done which sort of defeats the object.

My hair was box dyed dark and I’ve got a balayage recently. Bleach & toner was used and it’s quite subtle, and more light brown than blonde but will get lighter each time it’s re-done. I suppose you could get lighter if a stronger bleach was used, but I didn’t want to compromise the condition of my hair too much and over process it.
I have my hair both straight and naturally wavy.

Or of course you could have your hair lightened an wait for it to grow out. I'm sorry but that's how bayalage looks to me.
