I need help! Going out to a bar...

I know lockdown has thrown us all, but I've not been shopping in a few years as I'm still trying to lose baby weight. I live in jeggings and Breton t shirts, jumper dresses or summer dresses depending on the weather.

Anyway, I'm 5'11, size 14 bottom, 12 top. Broad shoulders but flattish stomach and decent waist. 36 years old.

What does one wear to go out for a meal in a bar now? Heels? Sandals? Trainers? I have no idea!!

I don't own any white flat sole trainers as they look like boats in size 8.

Thank you all lovely lot, I've been reading but need help!

I probably can't offer much good advice as never really know what to wear either, but your description was as if you are describing me exactly (although I'm 1 inch shorter), all other measurements and shape the same.

Although I also have bigger feet I love my white trainers, and feel slightly 'cooler' wearing them. My style is more casual and so for a meal in a bar I would wear either an ankle grazer skinny jean or a high rise boyfriend jean with a shorter (not cropped!) pretty shirt or oversized jumper tucked in. I definitely think feeling good when out is also down to hair and make up, if I've actually made an effort with my hair rather than the normal messy bun, I definitely feel better!

Day time I would be ok wearing trainers. Evening I wouldn't feel comfortable so would wear heeled ankle boots in cold weather, and heels/sandals in warm weather. I recently go these slides which are super comfortable, flat, and still dressy. www.dunelondon.com/novi-quilted-mules-black-0086504510006484/

Not sure if you are asking about outfit as well as shoes? I am similar shape to you. I like puffy sleeves when I want my arms covered, but also really like halter style to show off my shoulders. Something like one of these tops with highwaisted jeans and a belt to highlight your waist could look lovely. Of course I don't know if these are your style at all, but they general shapes might be helpful. It sounds like you have a balanced and and nicely proportioned body and are tall, so most clothes will hang really well on you.

I want outfit as well as shoes, but feel like if I can nail the shoes I can put something else together. I feel like I dress older than my age, but the idea of wearing trainers when your 'out out' seems mad. I grew up with people not allowed into bars wearing trainers!!

I'm lacking a lot of confidence, halternecks I feel like I look too broad shouldered (like a man).

I just can't work out a style!

I have a shirt similar to this, but no real jeans that fit. And again, no idea what shoes. I have some pleather trousers, are they a no no now?

What about a jumpsuit, some nice ones here

www.peopletree.co.uk/women/jumpsuits

I think they bridge the gap between casual and dressed up a bit.

Just read your comment about halter necks, I have the exact same issue. I’m broad shouldered too. I avoid halter necks and any frill/puff shoulder embellishments.

I’d go for a flat casual-ish sandal or slip on shoe. What footwear do you normally go for/have already?

Love the look of these. I have a jump suit that doesn't quite fit at the moment. Do you know what the sizing is like? I have a long body so can find jumpsuits equal camel toe!

You've just described me! I have these lovely sandals from Dorothy perkins. I feel they look my size 8s look dainty! Had to buy the 9s though as they have that as the euro 42. www.dorothyperkins.com/white-pearlene-pumps/AQQ13627.html
Also some great jumpsuits on here with good descriptions about fit 👌www.clarenceandalabama.co.uk/collections/jumpsuits

I Have these trainers which I hammer in the day. Love them and think I'm going to get the white version for summer.

I have similar to these sandals too.all the rest of my shoes are stiletto heels which I think is out of fashion now? Ageing??

Oh gosh I have these mulberry boots too bought when I had £££ pre kids. I've barely worn them as I've no idea what they go with!!

I'm useless. I wish I knew of a service that could fix my wardrobe!
