ALDI Birkenstocks

I just a bought a pair of ALDI Birkenstock lookalikes for £6.99. They are REAL LEATHER (which even actual Birkenstock's are not these days), and not as chunky as the real thing. So basically I like them more than the real thing.

That sounds really interesting. I bet we don’t get them in our local store, we never seem to get the good stuff.

Birkenstocks are leather or vegan. For £6.99 the quality won't be the same.

What’s the footbed like? I love birkies for their supportive arch, and find dupes aren’t as good.

vera16 · 17/05/2021 16:07

By vegan you mean plastic? I'll take my chances with the cheap leather.

Yeah not as moulded. Not totally flat though. And actually the footbed is also real leather.

I had a pair from Lidl a couple of years ago. They were more comfortable than my real Birkinstocks but the sole split before the end of the summer.

LavendulaAngustifolia · 17/05/2021 16:28

I also bought a pair of the real leather ones from Lidl and they snapped in less than a year. I ended up buying a pair of almost new ones from ebay for the same price.

You said Birkenstocks were not real leather which is incorrect. They sell leather and vegan (non leather). Is that better?
Lamentations · 17/05/2021 17:59

They will be nowhere near the quality and yes the PP is right - there are leather or non leather options available in the real thing - Birkenstock has not just lessened the quality by ditching leather.

But... they might be brilliant. I bought a cheap version from TK Maxx once and the sole came off within a month so I'm just bitter.

So thrilled.

Wow they are practically identical to the joules ones! I was after the long version, but the hoiles ones were sold out everywhere. Have Aldi got a long version?
vera16 · 17/05/2021 20:49

Glad to be of welly service.

I stand corrected on Birkies not being leather. I tried to buy leather a few years (probably more like 10...) and it was so difficult to get anything that wasn't the man made plastic option (now called vegan). Just checked site and you can now choose between the two.

They're probably not the same quality as the Joules ones but they are exactly what she wanted and I would have ordered some for myself.

My birkinstocks came from ebay when they were not fashionable. I got them at a low price, but it took a lot of trying. I've had them years.
Given what they cost and how well they last, they don't seem overpriced. I don't find them comfortable for walking a lot but they are great instead of slippers/crocs/flip-flops.

PenOrPencil · 18/05/2021 22:14

I was just about to replace my Birkenstock slippers for £££. So far I am impressed with the Aldi version. Narrower than Birkenstock, real leather and the sole seems softer than that of my real ones. Might go back for a second pair!

KirstenBlest · 19/05/2021 09:24

I had a good look at the Aldi ones in the store. They are ok for the price but they are definitely not Birkenstocks. The footbed isn't the same.

The wellibobs were ok but nowhere near as good as the Joules ones.

KirstenBlest · 19/05/2021 13:39

The wellies have arrived and they fit. Mother is delighted. I'm impressed with the delivery being so quick. If only they had a pair for me

KirstenBlest · 19/05/2021 13:49

Thanks again @vera16. I had no idea I could order them online. Poor Mother had tried 3 Aldi stores and online - she really wanted them.

I like the birkenstock clogs. If aldi made those, I'd buy them.

PineappleCakes · 19/05/2021 14:03

I bought the Aldi ones last year and wore then all through the summer - as comfy as my Birkenstocks, really loved the Aldi style. Very impressed.
